Local woman to observe s I - Celebrating her 80th birthday on Monday, Jan. 3, will be Mrs. Mina K. Funk, 422 West Third North, Brigham City. A family party is planned at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Neil (Frances) Christensen that evening. Mrs. Funk was born in 1897 in Grand Island, Neb., to William L. and Emilia Schlund Thaete, one of six children. The family moved to Aspen, Colorado, a short time later. There, at 18 months old, she contracted whooping cough which resulted in her becoming totally deaf. She attended the Colorado Deaf and Blind School for 12 years in Colorado Springs, Colo. The event began with a dinner, followed by a program of holiday music and dance. Junior member Lori' Ensign was chairman for the program and introduced a vocal solo by Peggy Smoot, a dance by Kathi and Cindy Mason, and another vocal solo by Beth Ensign. John Ensign then played the piano as daughter Lori led in group singing of carols and sea-- , sonal songs. The dinner portion of the evening was under the direction of Mary Robinette, assisted by a committee of auxiliary iur .zz-iu.-n assume most of us will be making our traditional New Years resolutions. I suppose it gives us a sense of accomplishing something to sit down and make that list but a few days after New Years most people will find out its easier to break a resolution than a habit. Funk in Denver, Colo. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple in 1931. Her husband died in May of 1960. Mrs. Funk is the mother of three children: Mrs. Neil MR. AND MRS. BERT TAYLOR (Franches) Christensen, Brigham City; Herm E. Funk, Mesa, Ariz.; and Mrs. Robert E. (Ida) Wilson of Maryville, Missouri. She has 19 grandchildren (one deceased), one and one ter, Mrs. Marie Fowler, 83, of Colorado Springs. She and her husband made Mr. and Mrs. Jesse R.
