All women LDS returned missionaries are invited to join the organization and attend, with members to bring potluck dishes from different parts of the country and the world to provide the dinner. Thursday, Dec. 19, at 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Dora Flack is the mother of six and is active in church and community, currently serving as president of the Salt Lake chapter of the League of Utah Writers. She has won many state and national writing awards. Her work has been published in many magazines, and she has several books to her credit. Dixie Payne gave the prayer thought, after which Marilyn Anderson presented a musical number. Rosamond Melartin read her original poetry in honor of the occasion. New members welcomed into the club included LaRey Petersen, June Peterson, Winifred Nelson, Sharon Stucki and LaVoyle Stenquist. Hostesses for the evening were Barbara Spiekerman, Phyllis Morgan and Dixie Payne. With 1974, Keeps Busy Jesse Roberts was an LDS who teacher Seminary to the insurance retired his before business retirement but adds that he keeps mighty busy with the rugmaking and home repairs. His humor comes through in sparkling Welsh eyes that belie his 86 years. When this reporter remarked youve got quite a hobby there he was quick to reply to Rose that what was ready meant was youve got quite a hubby there! And Rose retorts that she hasnt retired from anything--houseworchurch work, rugmaking, or the crocheting that she does each evening to make gifts for the family. She loves flowers and has more than 300 varieties of iris in her garden. Her 84 years compliment a lovely and face and manner. The couple is looking to the holidays with pleasure since shell have two sons and families here from Seattle and Georgia and there will be many opportunities for family since most of the couples children live in the area. His children include Melvin Roberts and Mrs. Arda Everton of Brigham City, Jesse J. of Smithfield, Dredge J. of Rupert, Idaho; Mrs. Marzo Stone of Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Ila Smith of Provo, and Doris Johnson of Lindon. Mrs. Roberts children include Mrs. Vena Fryer of Ogden; Mrs. Jesse Cook, widow of her son Jesse, Portland; Mrs. Edith Cook, widow of her son Fawson, Brigham City; Mrs. Fern Anderson of Garland, Dale J. Thompson, Seattle; and Owen Thompson, Atlanta, Ga. and made more than 50 of the rugs during 1973. Some have been gifts for their children and grandchildren, and many have been special orders placed by people who have seen the rugs and wanted one for themselves. Rose Roberts learned the rug braiding skill from her mother and has made well over 1000 rugs since 1959. Both widowed, the couple were wed some six years ago and it wasn't long until it became a shared hobby and skill. Jesse was watching his wife work on a rug and announced, I think 1 could do that - and he could! Now she anchors her rag strips to the back of a chair and braids the rugs, and he sews them together on a card-tabl- e in the basement of their cozy home. They estimate it takes about 20 hours to make a medium-sizerug, and find that room-sizerugs are too hard to handle. young-lookin- d d Recycled Scraps Not only are the rugs lovely but they and recycle good scrap back into use.
