The recent city council meeting was opened with a spirited discussion on the future plans of the fire department. Members of the fire department seem to have ambitious plans and hopes to expand their services to compare with the best in this service. Members of the city council, although not directly opposed to these plans cannot now see where the budget can accomodate these actions in their e full effect. Regardless of decisions, the fire department has planned to make fire prevention week, Oct. 6 to 12 a success by distributing a and safety materials presentation to the grade school on fire hazards they can watch for in the home and community. In other city matters Jeff Williams presented a letter to the council that focused on a nagging local problem of systematic accounting of funds and purchases by the use of purchase order numbers. Several council members indicated thut sometimes in the past they have not been fully aware of the intent of puschases made, for and in behalf of the city and it was just good to encourage acbusiness curate accounting practices. The council caused recent local zoning changes accepted long-rang- to be recorded in the official involving making the area east of third east rural residentual and also extending this zoning to areas north and south of town to the city limits along the highway. Also, adjustments were made in the dimensions of half-acr- e lots to allow 100 foot frontage as the minimum width of each lot. The making of the lot record directly south of the Shack a commercial zone was also recorded. As a consideration in future plans to contruct a haul road in the dike area, notice was given by a representative of the historical society that they were opposed to a haul in this area due to the negative effect it would have on the proposed improvement project at the site of the old cemetary north of the dike. The money had already been set aside for this project and concern is felt that this money would be wasted to some extent if a dusty haul road is constructed next to the site planned to be improved and maintained as a sort of rest. Meeting meeting is to be held to coordinate the local plans with other communities events in on the 1976. Even though Alvin Wells was not able to attend the On Oct. 9, a the future. In connection with the new system, plans are being made to call upon the new to assist in collection of past due bills to remind folks who forget and listen to any complaints stemming from the meeting, the mayor suggested that he ought to be the one appointed to attend this meeting. This is partly due to his involvement in current planned improvements on the tennis court and other local improvement projects being done in cooperation with federal matching funds. The first local frost last weekend and the shutting off of the water in the canal Saturday signal the end of another growing season. At this point it is welcome to have the frost discourage the weeds but next spring we will probably be anxious to plant again and start all over another season. I I t: i ?
