Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielsen attended Funeral services held in Ogden for former resident, 90 . by Maude R. Harris Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Larkin Chapel of the Dawn in Ogden for a former Portage resident, Hyrum Hoskins, age 90, by Bishop Dwight Pincock of the Ogden 31st ward. Burial was in the Portage City cemetery with a grandson, Michael Hoskins dedicating the grave. Mr. Hoskins is survived by his widow, Effie Gibbs Hoskins, two sons and four daughters, Clyde, Norman, Stella, Rita, Pearl and Irene. Among those who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gibbs, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hoskins, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harris visited the mortuary Wednesday evening. Following the burial services Mrs. J. C. Gibbs and Mrs. Maurice Thomas served a lunch at the Gibbs home for the relatives attending. The doors of the Hoskins Market were closed Oct. 1 after thirty years of service to this community due to ill health of the owners, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Hoskins (Thead and Ora). This is the first time since the community of Portage was organized that it has been without a store. We shall miss it. (See the story elsewhere in this edition) Mrs. Hoskins will retain her position as postmaster. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen returned to their home Saturday from Ogden. Owen received treatment at the McKay-De- e hospital for the past week and his wife visited with him each day and spent nights with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cannon and family of North Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morris of Ogden, Mrs. Pearl Williams of Malad and Miss Elva Moon of Cherry Creek visited with Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harris Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Moyle Knudsen spent Sunday at Bear Lake, Preston and Montpelier enjoying the beautiful canyons. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Allen were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Call Jr. of Black-foo- t and were Idaho Falls visitors Saturday. Sherry Budge and Judy Johnson of Logan spent Thursday with Sherrys mother, Velda Harris horseback riding in the canyon. Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Flint and family of West Point and Mrs. Marilda Flint of Clearfield visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. VarC Flint and family. a family dinner Saturday evening hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glasmann at their home in Ogden. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stephenson of Ogden and Mrs. NaVelle Rhodes of East Garland. Following the City with Mr. and Mrs. Phil R. Harris and family who have a new baby daughter. Roger Hall left Sunday for his home in San Francisco, Calif, after ten days visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell C. Hall. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chester P. Neal were Mr. and Mrs. Parris Neal and son of Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Thomas entertained at a dinner party Friday evening at their home with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hughes of Malad and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Hughes and family of San Diego, Calif., as guests. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hoskins and family of Roy and Jack Hoskins and daughter Kathy of Ogden visited with their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hoskins, the occasion being Cliffords birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Allen took their children, Troy and Lori to Logan Sunday where they enjoyed dinner at Sambos, the occasion being Loris ninth birthday. That evening her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Call of Malad and Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs Allen visited with the family and were served cake and ice cream. Judy, Todd and Leland Forsgren of Thatcher, Idaho, are visiting this week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Howell. Blessing Mr. and Mrs. VarC Flint attended Sacrament meeting in Fielding Ward Sunday in the interest of their granddaughter who was blessed and given a name. They were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith. The baby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Flint. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Bell moved to Ogden Saturday where thy will make their home. Mr. Bell has employment there. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L. Mr. and Mrs. James Udy and family joined Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Dale Williams of St. John and went to Weston, Idaho and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Monte Waldron and family. The Waldrons have a new home. Mr. and Mrs. Verdie Wharton of Malad and Dale Wharton of Pocatello visited with Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wharton are the parents of Mrs. Nielsen. Mr. and Mrs. Thayne Hupp and family of Hansel Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Morris of Garland were Sunday guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morris. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell C. Hall and son Roger visited in Logan Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Ray McAllister and Beverly Jenkins and in Garland with Mr. and Mrs. Euvene Halford. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morris visited in Ogden Saturday with and daughter, their Mr. and Mrs. Robert Callister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Budge of Logan brought their son Tyler to visit for a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Devere Harris Sunday. Officials say the course is valuable for persons who work with children and for any parents. The class will be held 1 to 4 p.m. through Dec. 13, at the consumer education cottage at 339 East Seventh North. More information may be obtained by calling Goes Home Mr. and Mrs. Earl Henry and took Mr. Henrys mother, Mrs. Goldie Wilson to the Salt Lake City airport Saturday where she left for her home in South Greenfield, Mo., after visiting for the past ten days with the Henrys. Mr. and Mrs. Devere Harris and daughter, Lori visited in Wellsville Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Jay Maughn and family. Mrs. Maughn recently returned from St. Marks hospital in Salt Lake family City. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gibbs and Mrs. Maurice Thomas visited.at the LDS hospital in Logan with E. T. Hoskins Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell C. Hall and son Roger returned Friday vacation night from a ten-da- y trip. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hall and family of McCook, Neb., points of interest in South Dakota and Wyoming including Rapid City, Mt. Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, Badlands and Sheridan. They had planned to drive through Yellowstone National Park but they ran into a snow storm in Wyoming so changed their route. Mr. and Mrs. Ora H. John and Mrs. Woodrow Clark attended Sacrament meeting in Garland First Ward Sunday, the occasion being the blessing of the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Clark. They were dinner guests of the Clarks. E. T. Hoskins was returned to his home Monday after a weeks treatment at the LDS hospital in Logan. He is still very ill. His wife, family and friends have been with him constantly at the hospital during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Owens of Ogden and Mrs. Gary Owens of California visited with Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielsen and Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hoskins and son Brent of Clearfield, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hoskins and family of Clinton and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Stanger and daughter of Sunset spent the weekend here. Mrs. Thelma D. Gibbs is conducting a choristers class each Saturday morning for the next six weeks at Malad for beginners and intermediate groups.
