The annual harvest of sugar beets began in Box Elder county Monday and is drawing special notice from the consuming public, what with sugar prices spiraling. This year's' crop is judged to be about average but acreage is down 10 percent from a year ago. Money earmarked for the jail project brings to $200,000 the amount taken from revenue sharing for the new law en . . D ex- pressed some irritation that $17,000 is available for an equestrian park from Uncle Sam and can't be used for anything else. It bothers me that I cant move that money around, he said, noting that more urgent needs exist in the county operation than an equestrian park. Superintendent Stanley Speaks said seven other defendants who were found not guilty or had charges dismissed in City court, were to face the same review board. In a recent meeting, Will Cross, county director of emergency services, said state and county representatives huddled to review a draft of the plan. County Commissioner John Holmgren who heads the county emergency services department, has asked that the plan be updated and made operable as soon as possible. When the plan is finalized, it will point out each departments responsibilities and eliminate duplication of efforts in combating a disaster, Cross explained. Attending the meeting were the county attorney, clerk and surveyer, district fire marshal, superintendent of schools and of of the department representatives employment security, state department of agriculture, and ASCS office, plus Red Cross leaders.
