Historic District more For complete in- formation about the recently designated Historic District I quote the following release prepared by the Willard A Historic Committee. area in Willard, Utah has been designated an Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, according to Ronald H. Walker, director of the National Park Service. The Willard Historic District is the first in the tools state of Utah and was selected because of its outstanding pioneer homes, many built of stone carved from the nearby mountain. Within the district, 12 homes are listed on the State Register for Utah and over 30 other buildings have been identified as pioneer structures. Within the area, many old barns, granaries, corrals, sheds and fences remain which with open spaces of small orchards or pasture areas comprise an important part of the Historic Districts Welsh ; The Mormon philosophy of building as permanently and 3. s The final craftsmanship of immigrant Shadrach Jones and his helpers who used their fine skills with a minimum of hand beautifully as their resources would allow; 4. The adaptability of the settlers to their environment. Rocks were used because of their abundance and the ability of the settlers to work with them. 5. Willard still reflects the design and composition of the typical Mormon agricultural village. The interest in Willards unique heritage has resulted in the incorporation of the Historic Willard Society, a nonprofit organization formed to promote and the preservation restoration of the towns architecture and artifacts. The group has held monthly workshops in restoration techniques, landscaping and methods of protecting Willards resources and has sponsored Willard Heritage day during which home tours were held and old photographs were collected. The Historic Willard society is now engaged in a project to restore and enhance the original pioneer cemetery in time for the nations Bicentennial. further For formation, contact: Barlow (801) 0 in- Gardner or (801) 723-269- What everyone else does is up to them but Ive decided to find or have made a swimming suit with long legs and a top to wear as it seems a good way to keep while from being swimming or boating in the sun as Im not really interested in being burned to a crisp, at least not all at once. d REMEMBER: If you want your home pictured in the local HOMES FOR LIVING Magazine . . . At least there are live bees doing their thing in my fields since all the bees were killed in Weber county recently. Since all the field crops that have not yet set their fruit need to be pollinated, the passing of the bee population in Weber county may affect these crops in that area. Although much ado has been made about the grasshopper spray killing the bees, Ive not yet heard whether or not the grasshoppers were affected in Weber county. The local harvests of cherries and apricots seems to be nearing the end for sweet cherries and apricots with sour cherries in full bloom. At least the harvest is in full bloom with many shakers, tanks and personnel hard at work shaking down the trees. The hot weather seems to hasten the rate at which the fruit ripens so it is pitched contest to get the fruit into the trade routes for human consumption before the wind spreads a layer of fruit on the ground under each tree. The field crops seem to be growing well so long as enough water is available to meet their needs but it keeps the irrigators busy meeting those needs. The cherry crops seem to be better than last year with sweet but not as good with the sour crop. The apricot harvest is considerably lighter in most orchards than last year but there have been enough to at least keep the customers interested if not fully satisfied. As Utah ATTRACTIVE , home. ,400 sq. CLOSING COSTS are Calif, Hills, Fruit harvest hastened with hot, hot weather throughout the states.
