Crop is fair to good which could describe most agricultural crops in the county this year, including row crops and fruit. Tremonton man notes birthday Editors note: Some days are like that . . . you know the kind. The July 18 Issue of the Journal was just such an occasion. And the source of woe and acute embarrassment had to do with the following story. This publication proclaimed to the world (In about 1,500 copies before the mistake was ceived) that Emil perAn- derson would observe his 80th birthday with an open house July 21. That was okay. Problem was that Instead of his picture, we ran a photo of Mr. Andersons late wife. A correction and apology were to have appeared In the July 21 Box Elder News but somehow they were left out. So, In this July 25 edition we do extend apologies to all concerned and pledge to try harder next time. Oh yes, and we hope you had an enjoyable birthday, Mr. Anderson. by Flo Munson The family of Emil Anderson of Tremonton honored him at an open house July 21 on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary. Emil Anderson was born July 1894 in Kappendrup, Fyn, Denmark. He spent his boyhood in Kappendrup and received his education there. When he was 21 years of age he came to America and made his home with an uncle in the Tremonton area. He was employed doing farm work. During World War I, he was drafted into the service and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. He claimed Cleo Andreason as his bride on July 12, 1919 in Olympia, Wash. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. has been a Mr. Anderson successful farmer raising hay, grain and beets until his retirement. They made their home in the Tremonton area. He also had dairy cows. 21, Active In Church He has been active in church organizations. He and his wife fulfilled a LDS mission in the He was a Northwest in 1960-6member of the American Legion, Post 76. On. Aug. 23, 1971 his wife died. He has lived alone since this time, doing all of his own housework. He washes, irons, does his own cooking and invites his family over occasionally for meals. In visiting with Mr. Anderson he told me "Weddings are a lot different now than they were back in the good old days. No one had large, fancy receptions then or went on honeymoons. These were horse and buggy days, although my wife and I purchased a car soon after we were married. It was a Ford and 35 miles per hour was considered a fast speed limit. We made our own butter, had a hand washer and used flat irons we heated on coal stoves. Comparing the times, Mr. Anderson recalled when he first came to America it took 22 days by boat to cross the Atlantic. home When he returned Saturday after vacationing in Denmark it was eight hours from the time they left Copenhagen until they arrived in New York, by plane.
