Lets not forget him you must have COLD! COLD! COLD! I told you last week there would be fresh air at the races, but I didnt know it would be right IHcave from the North Pole. This freezing, arctic weather recalls to mind times when it was as cold as last Saturday at the cutter races. I remember when the old race ditch at Botts Mill used to flood and freeze and we would fly down the frozen slopes on a scoop or coal shovel, sitting on the scoop part, holding the handle between our legs, trying to steer a course. No traffic to worry about because there wasnt a road there then. Near Froze I darn near froze. Girls didn't wear slacks or levis then, only long stockings with long johns poked down in them. They call them ski undies now. We sure needed them Saturday, that and a stick of that good Boden candy to suck on made you forget all about how cold you were. There were only three or four tough enough to sit in the stands. Our faithful fan and Im sure 100 percent attender, Mr. Hunsaker was there until the last race. We do appreciate him the support he gives the association. They came bundled up in parkas, scarves, face masks, stocking caps. Even then you saw frozen noses, eyebrows, a mustache or two, and they walked as though they had wooden toes. Dont should have been laugh-yo- u there. By the way, where were you? We had some terrific times. The track was frozen solid, and there was a "tail wind. We had one race so close they have to wait until next week to see an enlarged picture to see who is the winner. Those drivers and horses barely pause long enough to have pictures taken Bill Chapman, the association's photographer, is getting pretty adept at clicking that shutter on the run. What a different perspective of the races you get from there. The announcer, Sheriff Hyde, was kind enough to invite a few of us cold ladies up there. I'm sure we all appreciated it. This latest accommodation was furnished through the combined efforts of the county commissioners and the association. Many thinks. Now that the racing season has started, a team, to qualify, must run through even though the other team doesnt show. This happened with a few races last week. East Garland was completely snowed in, I guess what they needed was more horse power" to get through those snow drifts.
