Show 6 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah Sailor Gains Promotion BC Thursday, December 14, 1972 Obituaries A Brigham City Navy man was recently field promoted in the Republic of Vietnam to Edward Clayson Edward Clayson, 83, Bear River City, died Monday at the Cooley Memorial hospital in Brigham City. Clayson was born Jan. 14, 1889 at Lake Shore, Utah the son of Nathan and Annie Harriett (Butler) Clayson. He spent his boyhood in Colonia Juarez, Mexico. Clayson has been prominent in LDS church and civic affairs. He was president of the Cornish farm bureau for many years. He was also secretary and treasurer of the town board. He was a member of the LDS church served in the Cornish ward bishopric for 13 years. He also served seven years as Sunday school superintendant and was an experienced priesthood quorum adviser. Lula married Clayson Romney June 7, 1918 at the Salt Lake City LDS temple. She resides at the home in Bear River City. In addition the following children survive: three sons, Keith Edward Clayson, Richmond, Rex Vidmar Clayson, Pocatello, Idaho, and Reed Lamar Clayson, Falls Church, Va., two daughters; Mrs. Mario (Melba) Checketts, Bear River City; and Mrs. Maxine C. Adamson, Brigham City. Twenty-on- e grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Clayson had one surviving sister; Mrs. Edgar (Mae) Salt Lake City, Utah. Butler Funeral services will be conducted Thursday (today) at 12 noon at the Cornish LDS ward chapel, where friends may call Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the "Relief society room. Burial will be in the Lewiston, Utah cemetery. Ruth Ingram Mrs. Ruth Herlong Ingram, of 323 West Forest street, died Monday evening, Dec. 11, at home of natural cuases. She was born July 12, 1931, in South Carolina, a daughter of 41, Mrs. Ida Adella Owens Miller, 74, died (DIES Monday morning. Ida Miller Mrs. Ida Adella Owens Miller, Penrose, died Monday morning of a heart attack at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Keith Webb, in Kaysville. She was born Dec. 15, 1897, in East Dale, Colo., a daughter of n Rial and Lena Losana 74, Mor-tonse- Owens. Edward Clayson died Monday in a local DIES hospital. She was married to C. Eugene Miller on Sept. 29, 1915, in Albion, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Mr. Miller died March 5, 1961. She had lived in Penrose since petty officer second class, it was announced this past week. Petty Office Second Class Michael Busby gained the promotion while serving with special operations in Saigon and the Mekong Delta with the Military Sealift command. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Busby, 370 North Third West, and a 1968 graduate of Box Elder High school. Petty Officer Busby received the field promotion two days after returning to Vietnam after a leave at home with his parents in October. Has Awards He has served two years in Vietnam serving with the river patrol and later as an adviser prior to his present duty with special operations. He has also received one battle star making a total of three he is entitled to wear. Busby attended Utah State university and is a former employe of Brigham City corporation and Sauk Valley Manufacturing company. 1917. She had been active in the LDS church and served as president of the MIA and Relief Society in the Thatcher-Penros- e ward. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Thatcher-Penrose Ward chapel. OFFICER Tremonton Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the ward chapel Friday from 11 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Penrose cemetery, directed by Petersen Funeral chapel in Brigham City. Bank Teller Receives New Post v 3 The election of Mildred Jean as assistant Richardson operations officer of First Security Bank of Brigham City has been announced. Making the announcement was Robert T. Heiner, senior vice president and supervisor of the northern division, First Security Bank of Utah, N.A. A native of Deweyville, Mrs. Richardson First joined Security in 1959 on the central desk. She was utility teller when made assistant operations - SITE Edgar W. Dodd has joined the staff of the Golden Spike site. AT officer. Mrs. Richardson is a member of the American Legion auxiliary and Fraternal Order of Eagles auxiliary. She is a member of the LDS church and has worked on several community organizations. She is married to Theodore Richardson and has two children. Calif. Russell Sorenson Edward Russell Sorensen, 58, Tremonton, died Sunday at McKay hospital in Ogden after a lingering illness. He was born Feb. 7, 1914, in East Garland, a son of Soren Edward and Margaret Russell Walker Sorensen. He was reared and educated in Mackay and Leslie, Idaho. He married Edith Rogers on Feb. 23, 1937, in Brigham City. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple on Nov. 16, 1942. He moved to Salmon, Idaho, in 1938 where he worked as a rancher, mechanic and butcher before moving to Tremonton in December 1970. He was a member of the LDS church and an elder in the Tremonton Second ward. He was formerly a member of the Sunday School superintendency in the Baker ward in Idaho and YMMIA secretary in the Salmon River stake. Surviving are his widow of Tremonton; two sons and one daughter, Jack R. Sorensen, Ronald B. Sorensen, both of Salmon, Idaho; Miss Janett Sorensen, Tremonton; five grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, David W. Sorensen, St Anthony, Idaho; Glen Ephriam Sorensen, Edmond Mrs. (Mary Catherine) Bills, both of Salmon, Idaho; Mrs. Clinton (Elizabeth) Whiting, Nampa, Idaho. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. in the Tremonton Second ward chapel with Bishop K.G. Fridal III officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until 12:40 p.m. at Rogers mortuary. Burial will be in View River cemetery, Tremonton. Requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Henrys Catholic church. Holy Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Petersen Funeral chapel. Floyd Knudson Family Dr. CHICAGO lUPIl Philip M hite, secretary of the American Medical Association's Council on Foods and Nutrition, recently conducted a survey on the extent to which nutrition is taught in medical schools. He estimated that only 7 out of 60 offer nutrition courses and those are likely to be in- corporated into other courses rather than to be taught as an individual science. Spike Site Gets New Man W. Dodd has joined the staff at Golden Spike National Historic site. He replaces Jimmie C. Gott as supervisory park ranger (historian) who recently transferred to Colonial National Dodd Historical park. graduated from William Jewell college with a major in History and Anthropology. He served in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He was employed by the Smithsonian Institution in the Department of Anthropology and later joined the National Park Service at the Midwest Edgar (Ed) Archaeological center in Lincoln, Nebraska as a Museum Specialist. He then moved to National Mounds Effigy monument at McGregor, Iowa, as chief of interpretation and resource management from which he received his assignment at Golden Spike National Historic site. Dodd and his wife Eleanora have three sons, Sherman 12, Dale 9, and Roger 7. They are natives of Kansas City, Mo. Dodd comes to his new position with 12 years of government service and three years of military service and is well qualified for his assignment.
