Show Brigham City, Utah Thursday, October 19, 1972 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Nominations will close Oct. 27 for Agricultural Stablization and Conservation (ASC) Mantua Meanderings community by singing, America. By Joy Jepperson ladies and genu, my last two columns have been very short so if you want to know more about whats going on in our little world you'll have to clue me in. Even in a small town like Mantua, it is hard to keep abreast of all the doings. (Especially since we have all given up gossiping.) Thank you goes to those who have called or in some way let me know the news. For many who do not or can not get out or are not involved in too many happenings, it is a real treat to be able to read about things in the paper. So do not be shy, let me know what and why. Autumn is in its' fulness. Jess and Jessie Jepperson, Bruce and I and children rode up to Willard Peak recently. What a breathtaking view lay before us. Hills and hits of fiery reds, burnt oranges, pale yellows and the most beautiful blends your thoughts could imagine. How lucky we are in Mantua to be engulfed by this scenery on every side. We all ate lunch by a rather hidden lake, being quite difficult to get to. We discovered it echoed. If you stood next to the water and talked, it could be heard up the different surrounding hills. We had a lovely afternoon. Well, Speech Festival Held The Mantua ward speech festival was held Tuesday night under the direction of Joyce Craner, speech director with, the following program: Brian Hailing represented the Scouts with a speech on campaign costs. "Lets take the dollars out of campaigning and put back in was his clever the sense. closing remark as he threw pennies to a receptive audience. Trudy Sorenson represented the Beehives by giving a speech titled, "Polution. Debra Baxter and Pam Jeppsen both gave a talk on Womans Lib" with Pams', class joining her to sing, "I enjoy Being a Girl, accompanied by Kathy Sara. Todd Reeves gave a musical and Julie Higley brought the program to a close number, "God Bless Special mention should be made of the programs illustrated by Paul Craner. They were outstanding and also served as our ballots. Brian Hailing was voted the winner and will represent Mantua in the stake speech festival next Tuesday night at the First Ward. The town is invited to enjoy the talent. Lesson on Manners lesson on "Manners Matter" was presented by Adrianne Forsgren to the Relief Society women Wednesday night. This will be the theme for all the homemaking lessons this year. I am hoping they will sink deep into our ways of living so that by next spring we (I) can surface as politely perfect, for I have a feeling they are sorely needed. Any and all women, LDS or not, are welcome to attend Relief Society. They have classes on child rearing, better home culture relations, refinement, homemaking etc. It is cheaper than taking a college course and you get more individual attention. Do come if you are interested. Who is new in Mantua? Well we hate to lose people like the Dave Davis family. They are moving to Orem, but we wish them luck and happiness there. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Yearsley and family (their children are Michael, Cindy and Sandy) from Brigham City have bought the Davis home. A lovely Also Left Mr. and Mrs. Neal Osborn have left also, and moving in are Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Kathy Ritter and children, Michael, 4 and Jason, 2. Michael will be working for Harvey Facer on the farm. Michael Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Olsen, grandson .of Scott Olsen, is up from La Habra, Calif., visiting for a few days. Coleen Shehan and her fiance, Scott Rampton, spent the afternoon and evening meal with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shehan. They are both at having farming interests within the respective community are not eligible. Minority Nomination In communities where the slate is not filled by nominating petitions and minority groups sharecroppers, tenants, and minors who supervise entire farm operation eligible Anyone June and Guy Higley and family went to Burley Sunday to spend the day with Guys Mr. and Mrs. parents, Lawrence Higley. Orion and Ruth Nelson went to Idaho Falls over the weekend to visit with Bob and Marion Hope and family. On the way home they stopped at Idaho to visit Verl and Carla Anderson. They said they had a very nice time. Club was held at Dixie Noyes. Top prize went to Diane Hall, low was Karen Hailing and cut was Joyce Larsen. Special recognition goes to Faye Hailing for having a hand. 500-poi- Party Each couple got to keep a small, perfumed candle from the Young Marrieds party this month. The tables at which we sat to enjoy our smorgasboard meal were decorated with large and small candles made by Berma and Reid Jeppsen. Others on the committee were Janet and Stewart Reeves, Chairmen, Caroline and John Hurd, Joyce and Curtis Larsen, Ralph and Marie Valentine, Carol and Dewey Sorenson, and Treva and Leon Johnson. Do you know how you are to determine whether you should be attending Young Marrieds or not? Well, any married couple (you must be married and preferably to each other) still in good health, who are still in love are therefor young in Love and should be attending Young Marrieds. How about that. All I can say is couldnt I have a ball with this column telling who comes and who doesnt as to Turned Twelve Michael Allred turned 12 years of age last week along with Chad Carr. Michael celebrated by having a party at which the children played football, danced and were treated to barbeques and cake. Chads was a bowling party. Everyone went bowling after which they had cake and ice cream. Grandma Ila Facer was up eating Sunday dinner with the Facers last weekend. Mrs. Merrill's kindergarten class and Mrs. Palmers special Ecuation class came to Mantua to see farm animals and pets. First they looked at Marlene and Darlenes horse, then they went over to Harvey Facers and saw the calves and cows in the milk barn. They then went to Jim Forsgrens and saw Galand Jensens baby pigs and baby goats, and Forsgrens chickens, ducks, rabbits and quails. They took pictures after which they enjoyed milk and donuts. Special notice was the hornets' nest they observed just before leaving. What a fun filled afternoon. Political Night Thursday was political night in Brigham City. Bruce and I attended the Republican preelection dinner at the community center with guest speaker Jake Gam. mayor of Salt Lake. Over at the Eagles another dinner was being held with by the Democrats Governor Rampton attending. So many political people and speeches turn my stomach so I thoroughly enjoyed Mayor Garns talk as it turned out to be the exception to this rule. He was refreshing and very interesting, and made you feel very grateful to have been bora in America. I have been trying to find some one to tell me about the Demo dinner but have had no luck as yet. -- In closing I would like to add isnt it fun to wear these long dreeses instead of the old' shorties. It is like emerging from adolescence womanhood. letter committee ASC their eligibility and outlining duties of ASC committeemen.
