Okay, now that we have that straightened up here's another items that needs a little hashing out. Heard the remark the other day, "I'm not voting for anybody." The person making the statement didn't particularly favor Nixon or McGovern and didn't consider the American Independent hopeful Schmitz. Again as in the past yours truly has been asked for help. This time for something a little unusual but still very important. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper told this writer recently that he would like to grow a mustache and long sideburns, but It was against UHP policy. Now I Anyway he said, "Why vote if you don't like any of the can didates?" The best answer to that Is ya have to vote .... and you have to choose the one you feel will do the better job. Even if you don't like any of them. That's the truth of the situation. What If you couldn't vote? It sounds corny but it's something to think about. ask, is that fair? Citizens should write Gov. Calvin Rampton and ask that the policy be changed. After all everyone should be allowed to grow mustaches and long sideburns. Anyway Z feels that any trooper who wishes to cultivate hair on the upper lip or down the sides of his face should be allowed too. You're party to allowed grow Speaking of the campaign I saw a negative bumper sticker the other day: "Anybody But McGovern." Some Democrat will change the sticker, "Nixon Now" to "Nixon Never," to retaliate for the McGovern sign. How would you like to be a professional bumper sticker writer? Must be some job. 50 Monday, Oct. 16, 1922 Members of the Mens Glee club of the University of Utah have been selected by competition held last week under the direction of Thomas Giles, music instructor of the university. By Kleon Kerr, Director, Building Maintenance I Repair transportation, Utah State Board of After the school plants had been visited, the state official commented that from the standpoint of facilities and maintenance. Box Elder School district would rank as high or higher than 90 percent of the school districts In the state of Utah. Nevertheless, four schools had 'facilities which were rated inadequate. Corrective action has been taken by the district board of education to alleviate the inadequacies. A high priority need for a more suitable school is being met by the construction of a completely new school plant on a new site to replace the present McKinley Elementary school. Authorization to proceed with construction of a new vocational building and heating plant at the Bear River High school will result in overcoming the low rating afforded those facilities. Two other schools approved for some needed structural environmental improvements are Park Valley and Grouse Creek. THE STATE coordinator indicated that with the finalization of the above four projects, Box Elder School district would easily be ranked in the upper ten percent of the Utah school districts in the state in so far as adequate facilities are concerned. In addition to a considerable number of other improvements being made in the various schools throughout the district, the four projects above represent an expenditure in dollars exceeding $1,500,000. The new, as well as the older buildings, require maintenance and operational skills which necessitate the utilization of a large staff of workers. These employees are directly responsible to the principal of the respective full-tim- part-tim- schools. Their work Is custodial, maintenance and operational. Operation and maintenance of the 22 school plants requires training on the part of employees. Technical and automated equipment entails constant special attention. When operational and maintenance difficulties arise which are beyond the training of school and central staff personnel, available to the district are a number of specialists who are employed by various automated equipment companies. The operational and maintenance personnel of the district and local schools also devote time to repair of equipment. This is a major responsibility in view of the Increased use of electrical automated teaching equipment. THE DAY IS PAST when a school maintenance job is viewed as one which only involves the sweeping of floors and the emptying of waste baskets. Maintenance men and women must continually seek in order to cope with changes which result from the new emphasis placed on "educational structural environment" by educational facility planners. In addition to the 23 schools, operational service is required for 19 temporary metal buildings, two motor vehicle maintenance shops , two supply buildings, one vocational home and three presently unused small school buildings.
