' By of slingshots, members of the Southwestern Utah Arts Council tackled Goliath in form of the Old Dixie College Building on Main Street, Saturday, March 12. Like David, they emerged from the battle, victorious. While the building is still far from the Southwest Arts Center, it is to become, it has moved steps away from a grimy neglected structure fit only for tearing down which Dorothy E. See had been its projected fate until Art, Drama and Civic groups expressed interest in its renovation. By night fall six truck loads of trash had been hauled away, bedraggled dirty draperies had been removed from the high windows, the rose bushes had been trimmed and the grounds had been watered. President of the Arts Council, Paul Jensen said, Weve mucked it out, cleaned it and the majority of the rough hauling has been done." Mr. Jensen said the next project by the group will be the scrubbing of floors, window washing and general painting of the future galleries, arts and crafts rooms and studios. Mr. Jensen said that construction work is beginning immediately. In a month the building will be ready for exhibits. During the clean-u- p n Saturday, a portrait painter from and Nevada stopped m to say that she would be interested in exhibiting in the gallery when ready.
