It was the first flight for Dave, who was a little nervous, but not for long. "We watched the sun come up over the North Atlantic. It was absolutely spectacular. It came up very subtly, then splashed over the horizon in hues of cardinal reds and burgundy with orange highlights.' 1 IN on cf-nd-i n I vr"7- -- - ;- r-- iH') ? ,' -' -- hr f L b ,, Vs l'. ' -- ! After looking at the expenses and tvhat trere learned , Judy and I decided we're going back! "The longer I stay in Paris, the better I like it. Im getting more communitive with the French people. But I could never get used to the traffic and the French people and their dogs. "Let me try to begin to describe European traffic. Anything between buildings is fair driving space. That sidewalks, curbs, your feet, or any other section of your anatomy. es "I've always had the urge to travel and explore new and exciting places , but I've never before now had the courage to fulfill my dreams. . I dont know if its the gospel that bonds us together or the common ability of Gods children to be a service to others. Whatever it is, its a welcome commodity in our first trip abroad. Judy and I rushed down the street looking in shops and finding nothing. As we reached the cafe, we saw her standing with the waiter who could not understand 'Utahn. - "We than made our way to Anne Franks house. This experience was really good for the childrens education. As we walked, up the narrow, steep stairway to the room where the Frank family escaped, it gave us the chills . . . The bookcase with the door behind where the Frank and Van Daam families eluded the gestapo. I dont think our family will ever forget the Impression we received at that house today. A . "These people are very proud of their culture. Often they would stop us to tell us about it "We saw some old ladies in Alsatian dress. It is the last place where they wear the traditional Alsatian costume. "Ijee Ann and walked by a canal near our hotel , and she asked hundreds of questions about the Nazis, Anne Frank , her family , World War II and Rembrandt. I really feel the kids have gained spiritually , educationally and culturally from the European experience. I know I have. I've also grown in my self confidence to do what I think I can do. "ITie walked about a half mile before we found our f Hotel Sunny'. What an euphemism. The owner has a stuffed hippotamus in his foyer, and a pigeon as a house pet. "We bought some apples to take the edge off our hunger. After walking several blocks through the mass of humanity and barking market owners, we came across the perfect place, "On our way to cash some travelers checks, we were distracted by some early morning markets. The fruits and vegetables were beautiful and reasonably priced. The meat and fish were left open to the elements. The poultry and rabbits were cleaned but the heads were left on as well as the claws and feet. Have you ever seen a rabbits head skinned? Even Its ears were naked. "I think Im in love with Strasbourg. The streets look like something out of a fairy tale with Swiss style houses. The cathedral was more impressive to me than Notre Dame.? 7 V t with the exotic draw we couldn't McDonalds. "Everyone who got on the bus stared at us. At first I thought they were staring at me because I was so handsome. Actually, I knew better. They couldn't believe their eyes. Two crazy Americans with four kids and backpacks. resist a ; j 1 |
