Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, August 25, 2004 - Page 42 participate in youth riders from the Four Corners area participated in the open horse show August 10 at the San Juan County Fair. Youth ranging in age from six to eighteen participated in four events. Showmanship Pattern and the Reining Pattern were the two judged Forty-tw- events. o Participants were judged on the general appearance of the horse, positioning of the horse, and the response of the horse to the participant. Riders in the Reining Pattern are judged on how well the horse completes the reining pattern and on how well the rider guides the horse through the pattern. The energy and excitement grew when the two speed events of the day came around. Barrel Racing and Pole Bending sent participants and their horses racing through the arena. Excitement and anticipation filled the air following the show as the awards for the days winners 12 Horse Show Winner - Karah Shumway 1st reserve - Jessilee Rowley 2nd reserve - Brittany Rowley Two handed Competition Winner - Nichole Benson 1st reserve - Kyson Open Horse Show was also the last 4H horse show of the year. Several competitors from the Blanding and Monticello 4H clubs will compete in the state 4H show in Loren Randall September. Parents and participants wish to thank JanaLee Grover, Shawna Shumway and Wendy Benson for the time and effort they put into our local 4H horse clubs.
