All boys and girls aged 8 to 13 living in San Juan or Grand counties are eligible to compete in the Moab contest. The three boys and three girls scoring the highest in their age category wiU advance to the district finals in Richfield in JanuRichfield winners will ary. compete at the State shoot-of- f. Winners in the State shoot-o- ff will compete in the National finals in Indiana. The event is open to the public and admission is free. 8-- The winners in the racquetball tournament sponsoredby the Body Salon last weekend in Monticello are: Mens A Division: Guy Harris placed first and Tyson Ramsey placed second. Womens A Division: Barbara Harris placed first and Irene Demley placed second. Mens B Division: Buddy Redd placed first and Daniel Connors placed second. AU-Reg- ion All-Reg- ion Facing a very strong Piute team, the Raiders gave it their all but took a disapT-B- ird pointing loss in two very close scoring sets. The Raiders played a final game against the North Sevier to decide third and Wolves fourth place. Not to be stopped their loss against Piute, by Whitehorse attackedNorth Sevier from the first serve and won the game in two sets. Jensen The Buckaroo footbaU team wasnt really expected to go very far this year --- that it would be a down year for the team. However you look at it, ending up one of the top four teams in the state is by no means a down year. It is, alas, true to say that the Bucks did end the season in a sour way. They were knocked out of the state playoffs by the Beaver Beavers 63 to 0. The Bucks had a generally miserable time and appeared to offer the Beavers a good deal of help in the defeat. Out of 9 turnovers by the Bucks, 7 were directly converted into touchdowns by the Beavers. Five interceptions and 2 fumbles made up the converted turnovers. Coach Dowell substituted many second string players into the game looking for some help and even though they played a bit better than the starting players, were no match for the they 7 School Whitehorse High Raiders volleyball team earned second place in Region 13 volleyball action at Green River, and First Annual Central Utah Farm & Ranch Equipment Auction Saturday, November 19 at 11 a.m. Cleveland (Price), Utah A 8N, season 10 a.m. Racquetball tourney 9 Bucks finish School gym in Moab on Saturday, November 19, beginning at free-thro- - Page Future Farmers of America thanks everyone who participated in the Big Buck Contest. First place went to Teryl Pugh, with a 30 12 inch three point. Second place went to Billy Gaines with a 27 inch four point. Lamb Show trophies were presented during the banquet. Kaylea Grover, daughter of Merlin and Lou Ann Grover, received the Grand Champion Lamb award with second place to Denny Jones, son of Demis and Leila Jones. Ryan Pearson, son of Eugene and Betty Pehrson. took third place. Special thanks were given to all the buyers for their support of the Junior Livestock Program, the area! Beavers. On the bright side of things, the Bucks finished their season with 7 wins and 5 losses. They also hold the Region 13 championship and at least a fourth place ranking in the State A 1-- football teams. It was a great season, said We only lost Coach Dowell. one game to a team that wasnt a lot better than we were. We were a team without a real start we had a whole bunch of players who had the heart to play the game. This is the first time in five years that weve been to the semi-finaThe team is surely the most improved team that MHS has seen in a long time, The team can be proud of the season. They were a great group to work with, said Coach Dowell. Senior players on the team are: David Robinson, Shon Mike Fullmer, Lovato, Brian Deeter, Jim Gallup, Tom Garcia, Shay Lewis, Brian Sherman and ls. Dale Whipple. Until next year, the pads and helmets will be put away. This Buckaroo team has come a long way and, along with the community, one that the school can be proud of. But Jense says without critical harvest figures from the Spanish Fork Canyon, closed by the Thistle mudslide, theres a big hole in his harvest data. According to Jense, mild weather through the eleven-da- y hunting season resulted in increased hunter numbers and hunting pressure through much of the state. He speculates that many more hunters were out during midweek and camped longer. The total number of hunters afield is estimated to have been near or Just over 200,000. |
