For having voluntarily taken and reporting daily weather readings to the U.S. Weather Bureau for the last 32 years, Semadeni is the recipient of an Outstanding Service Medal presented to him by Governor Scott Matheson. Semadeni, a full-tifarmer, has lived all of his life at Cedar Point near the border of Utah and Colorado. His father, Albert Semadeni began voluntary weather readings in 1945 at the request of the Salt Lake City weather bureau. Oscar assumed the task in me 1949. Every morning he takes 6 a.m. readings of the highs and lows of the preceeding day, records the current temperature on equipment loaned by the weather bureau, and phones the information to radio station, KUTA, located approximately 23 miles southwest of his home. Most of the time we have it. . . I think we have enough daily heavy winds to average out as a source of energy generation. While wind is a common weather factor in San Juan County, Semadeni only last week received the equipment needed to accurately ascertain wind velocity on a ping 24-ho- ur bases. The wind cup- device provided by Dean Hershey of the Salt Lake City U.S. Weather Bureau, will be manned by Semadeni at his Cedar Point base.
