Show Sbumway named "Social Worker of Year" been extended to the Navajo people of the Utah part of the reservation. First priorities have been given to encouraging school attendance and to developing work experience and training programs where adults work for the assistance given their families. Mr. Shumway is married to Mr. Bruce Shumway, San Juan County's Welfare Director has been chosen as "Social Worker of the Year" by the Utah Chapter of NASW (National Association of Social Workers). The award was presented to him at a noon luncheon March 28 at the University of Utah. The award Is presented each year to a Utah professional social worker who has made an outstanding contribution to his profession and to the people he serves. The Utah NASW Charter has a membership of more than 400 master's degree social workers representing over 100 Utah social service agencies. Almost all professionally trained social workers in Utah are members of NASW, Mr. Shumwav graduated from BYU in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and from the University of Utah in 1962 which his master's degree in social work. Mass will be celebrated at Aneth on Sunday morning for children attending school at the Boarding School. At the mission in Bluff the Community Program will begin at 4:30 p. m. with religious education classes followed by Mass and a community meal. There will be no religious education class in Blanding and children there will attend the Mission. Field work will be conducted throughout the Aneth and Hatch areas for five days during the week by Nick Lyndon. Religious education classes will be taught at Aneth on Tuesday, at Montezuma Creek on Wednesday, and at Teec Nos Pos on Thursday, and at Navajo Mountain on Friday.
