Remember back when the Bureau of Land Management made such a fuss about preserving the artifacts on the local Mokis? And the federal law that forbids digging, destroying or otherwise looting any artifact? Well, this weeks Salt Lake paper carried a right big story about a BLM employe, working with a helicopter survey crew near Moab, that found 16 Clovis arrowheads. Are these artifacts? Suffice to say that Clovis points are 10,000 years old, only some 40 are in existence and all 16 of the ones found near Moab were reportedly found in one location a startling find. Paz, Niles, Calif. - COAST GUARDSMAN Mr. Lopez was a Coast Guardsman for many years and received a Commandants Letter of Commendation in 1961 in recognition of his performance on Jan. 12, 1961 when five Coast Guardsmen and two fishermen lost their lives at the mouth of the Columbia River. Mr. Lopez, a boatswains mate first class, was lifeboat in charge of a from Point Adams, Ore. that was searching for a lost fishing boat in the big storm. Lopezs boat was badly damaged when it dropped hard off a breaking wave. He successfully maneuvered the boat back to its station, and brought his crew of three men in without injury.
