Diane Stuart, guest speaker of the Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition program in the Castle Dale City Park last Wednesday, admonished those present to get involved in the fight against domestic violence. We cannot tolerate abusive behavior, we need to hold abusers accountable for their actions. When we see someone who has been hurt do we ask questions? Do we say anything to them? We need to care, we need to do whatever we can. This problem is serious, and statistics show it could get worse. We need to remember the children, 65 percent of children in abusive homes grow up to be abusers. This means that 35 percent dont. Do what you can for the children. Be an example for them. Dont ignore the problem, Stuart pleaded. She went on to relate a story of a tree, standing alone in a clearing. The tree was blown over by a high wind. Not too far away from the toppled tree was a group of trees which did not blow over in the same wind. The reason why was because their roots were intertwined with each other, giving each the strength it needed to withstand the wind. Stuart said we must be like the group of trees. We must work together to stop domestic violence. . 4 |
