Show Carbon County Business Bevieiv November 21, 1995 -- 1995 3 Museum showcases prehistoric past It was about 147 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed through Eastern Utah. They left behind their bones, footprints and traces of their everyday life for scientists to find and study. The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum in Price showcases this rich prehis- toric past. The museum officially opened in 1961 with one dinosaur skeleton and has since grown to house six complete skeletons from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, three of which are bone specimens. The museum also contains a large collection of dinosaur real tracks removed from local coal mines, dinosaur eggs and other fossils. Dinosaurs are not EastUtahs only claim to fame. The museums Hall of Archaeology displays artifacts left behind by people that called Utah home thousands of years ago. A life-ern size pithouse and decorated figurines from the Fremont Culture, ancient pottery, robes, rock art and a Colombian mammoth skele- '' ' " - ' '' " if ' ttMC-- ton that perished in the mountains of Utah over 11,500 years ago are on display. world class teaching facility, the CEU Prehistoric A Museum currently operates 10 active dinosaur quarries and the recent discovery of the world famous Utahraptor by museum personnel has put the museum on the cutting edge of scientific discovery. Recently dubbed "Utahs Best Kept Secret", the CEU Museum hosts nearly 60,000 visitors annually, many coming from outside the United States. The CEU Museum is open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April 1 through September 30 and Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 1 through March 31.
