Utah histories, LDS history, DUP (Daughters of the Utah Pioneers) and WPA (Works Progress Administration) publications from Emery County were perused in the extensive research undertaken for Ferron Creek. The Utah State Historical Society was frequented and a publication in i980 by the Emery County Progress provided a wealth of information. Born in Cleveland, Emery County, Petersen moved to Wellington when she was eight years old. She attended Brigham Young University Petersen, author of Sarah Bedford: Charlottes Daughter , will be autographing copies of her new book, Ferron Creek, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2 p.m. at Ferron Library, hosted by Serendipity Books and Saturday, Nov. ll, 2 p.m. at Walton Books in Price. Printed Horizon by Publishers,' Ferron Creek is a history of Castle Valley towns , concentrating on the town of Ferron. Brigham Young called people there, Petersen commented while describing her book, it was a hard place to settle. The people there had a very hard life. Between autograph ses- sions , Petersen will be making a presentation for the League of Utah Writers, Price Chapter, Saturday, Nov. 11, a.m. 10-11:- at the College of Eastern Utah Student Center, Little Theater. Anyone inter and the University of Utah, obtaining a masters degree in education and English. In all, 36 years have been spent 18 years in Ameriteaching can Fork, second and third grades. Having begun as a correspondent and feature writer for the Sun Advocate, Petersen has been writing for fifty years. Numerous articles and short stories have been published in newspapers and magazines. Ferron Creek is Petersens fifth published book. Her books have included historical biographies as well as an autobiography. She learned a valuble lesson while writing her life story. After completing the manuscript, she found that it bored her to read it. It was nothing but the bare bones. Her son helped her to flesh it out by inquiring as to 50-pa- what she liked, what she ate .... details. Her completed autobiography contains feelings, thoughts and pictures. In 1974 Petersen joined the League of Utah Writers. In 1984 she was president of the Utah Valley chapter, and in 1987 was state president of the league. When asked for advice to other league members, Petersen emphasized Good writing and She is writing also encourages writers to enter contests. By entering contests, I learned. Thats one good thing about the league. They will give you a personal critique. Thats helpful. Its amazing how criticism helps you. Petersen also belongs to the National League of American Pen Women. She has four g. children, 13 grandchildren and 15 Wanda S. Petersen great-grandchildre- n. CEU writer series hosts Rostkowski Ogden young adult writer Margaret Rostkowski will read from her works at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the College of Eastern Utahs Little Theater. As a child, Rostkowski read Little Women constantly when she was 10, War and Peace when she was 16 and volumes of historical fiction. She remembers riding the bus by herself to the Carnegie Free Library, roaming the shelves for books and coming home with armloads. Her ing between her brothers who are about to go to war, the joy in the face of her mother and aunt, then little girls of 7 and 9, sitting on the grass on either side of their uncle, who had returned home safely. At the CEU reading, she will read from her book Best of Friends, a story about three Wasatch Front high school students learning about friendship and independence against the backdrop of the conflict in Vietnam. The book will be available for purchase and signing at the reception following the reading.
