Show In US. West program Peacock named outstanding teacher The Emery School District has named Neal Lynn Peacock as the US West Outstanding Teacher in the Emery District. Mr. Peacock is being cited for his initiative and personal commitment to improve the quality of education in the Emery County High School. Mr. Peacock has an unusual commitment to students and makes extraordinary efforts to make the world come alive through active and creative involvement in the education process. The US WEST Outstanding Teacher Program accepted Mr. Peacocks nomination by the district. Fourteen different awards will be given in this program one in each state served by US WEST and its subsidiaries (which include Bell, Northwestern and Pacific Northwest Mountain Bell Bell). , Peacock is being as a great asset to recognized his school, his district and his Mr. community. One of his standing attributes is his cern for the individual person. This concern extends beyond the classroom. Mr. Peacock is involved in numerous community and church activities. He has been involved in numerous sports and athletic programs. As chairman of the Bicentennial Commission, he has worked to commemorate the Year of Our Constitution. He serves on the Emery County Board of Directors for the community theater; assistant director of the College of outcon- Neal Peacock, an instructor at Emery County High School who was recently named the U.S. West Outstanding Teacher for Emery County, uses a simulation to r teach his students the concept of European balance of power in the 17th century in his photobVurrvw.D.vi European history class. Eastern Utahs Shakespearean Festival Workshop; and advisor for the Emery High Student Council. In each of these areas he has contributed long hours of personal time. Peacock has the Mr. of both the responsibility and the drama programs at the Emery County High School. He has captured many state trophies in both areas. To make either of these programs flourish as they do is a feat. To make both programs outstanding in his school, region and state is most praiseworthy. All of this in a rural district, where as a teacher he has been required to serve as an expert in areas of curriculum development and forensic teach both AP European history and American government and law as well. Mr. Peacocks skill in the classroom is the epitome of a master at work. He is innovative with his approach in everything that he does. His students never know how he will appear before them in the classroom; will he arrive as Socrates? James Madison? or Napoleon? Whatever character he assumes, his students love him, his peers respect him and the Emery District is proud to honor him as the nominee for the US WEST Outstanding Teacher Program. Bulldog bulletin By JENNY BUSCH 124 Ferron Elementary. , Friday, April 15, our school rfill host the annual speech meet. There will be around 300 students competing schoolers from seven schools. SRJH reporter ' On our school hosted a gymnastics meet. There were On April 5 participants from preto high schoolers. Participating in the meet with Emery were teams from Payson and Richfield. The following students received Jessie Rogers, Castle Dale, kindergarten and under; Jenny Richardson, Huntington, first and second grade; Monica third and Cox, Orangeville, all-arou- fourth grade; GraceLyn Johansen, Castle Dale, fifth and sixth grade; Summer Lynn Oveson, Castle Dale, seventh grade; Kerrilynn Olsen, Orangeville, eighth through high school. We would like to congratulate these kids and all the others who placed. We would like to thank Mrs. Oveson and Jackie, our school secretary, for all the work they put into it. On April 14 our vo-a- g students are going to be putting on a demonstration at the stock show grounds which is called Food For America. They have invited the third graders from Tryouts for next years cheerleaders will be held on Thursday, April 19 at our school. CTBS tests will be given to all students at our school the week of April 18-2- 2. The annual math competition will be held on April 13 at BYU. The following students will be representing our school: Melinda Judi, Melissa McKell, Kristel Anderson, Mike Cole, Mike Gagon, Roshelle Gentry, Nathan Huntington, Nicole Jones, Renee Moore, Curtis Morley, Jenny Rawson, Cindy Snow, Ernie Thompson, Janna Yost, Joe Headrick and Eric Wilbanks. We would like to wish them luck. We would like to thank Mr. Jensen, our math teacher, for the extra help he has given these students. Our school will be holding the annual book fair the week of April 25. Parents are invited to see and buy books on April 26, the night of the schools fair. Spartan spot State drama is April 29 at By Steve Law ECHS reporter You know whats happening with baseball and track, but heres whats going on with the rest of the school. FHA had a state convention last Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Jorgensen said they would expect to get some awards. Geology had a field trip last Wednesday. They have another on April 19. The 'drama team did very well at region and took first place. Practically the whole team qualified for state competition. Mountain View High School. State solo and ensemble was also held last Friday. Well have results of how they did next week. The rodeo team did well at the Moab Rodeo on March 25 and 26. Becky Motte took fourth in the poles. Kelly Motte was first attendant to the queen. Casey Allred took second in bullriding. Dale Fielder took fourth in calfroping. Jessie Allred took sixth in bullriding. The junior prom is April 16. Juniors will be practicing their dance this week.
