First, the Spartans will play their opening game of the season against San Juan on Friday; second, new coach Jimmy Jones will meet his first test as Spartan mentor; and third, the new sod on the field will face its first rigors of competition. Local Spartan fans are hoping that Emery can ace all of these tests. The game will be held at 6 p.m. at the high school field. In the womens B division, the Sizzlers from Emery County finished in first place. That team, sponsored by McKee Marketing of South Jordan, defeated the Emery Express in the championship game while Stamp Mill, a Pleasant Grove team, finished in third. Annette Grimm of the Sizzlers was named the MVP.
