This years student body president Cody Tibbetts and senior class president Lonnie Campbell have really put forth the effort to get everyone working together. It seems everything they have, done has been top notch and inspiring to the classes below them. The juniors as well, led by their president Andrew Baker, are starting to catch up with the seniors by showing their own appreciation for school spirit. Sophomore Josh Vogel stated, Its when you see classes go all out to help one another and support the overall effort that you gain a sense of school spirit. We sophomores and the freshman have a lot to learn from our senior and junior upper classmen its called teamwork. The appearance of the football field on homecoming really did show how much everyone was working to make GCHS the best it can be. A 20 ft wide football helmet complete with devil horns was hand painted on the 50 yard line for this years homecoming game between Moabs Red Devils and the San Juan Broncos on October 1. The field helmet, a project spearheaded by sophomore secretary Courtney Wimmer, proved very motivating for our Red Devils both on the field and off, as well as for spectators. Wimmer gathered support for the project one class at a time over just a few weeks. She quickly included the fine art skills of the Native American Club, for the stenciling, and after weeks of making plans, her vision of the helmet finally took shape. The mural and all the supplies we did make use of can be used again. Class members can look forward to lots of hours of tissue and chicken wire next year for sure. Grand County High has 25 clubs available for student participation. There are three coed athletic teams, six mens teams, and seven Womans teams. There are also a number of competitive programs that are coed and compete at region and state levels. The next home game for the Red Devils football team is scheduled for October 15 Half time activities will include a special performance of the Jr. Drill Team. The Jr. Drill team offers younger girls the experience of learning a dance routine, and performing that routine before a large crowd. Jr. Drill promotes self esteem, teamwork, and sportsmanship behavior. It helps develop positive attitudes for the future, and gives the younger girls in the community a chance to have training with GCHS drill team members. both volunteered to help over see the school project, by supervising students, and helping them collect the correct materials for use. Sheen Bylilly and alumni Darrell Begay took great satisfaction in crafting the devil helmet, and both appreciated being asked to come out and work with others in a combined effort to support the Red Devils. Betty Bylilly, parent of Sheen Bylilly said Since the Native American Club didnt have a float this year; this is the kids way of showing their support for our Red Devils. It was a win-wiproject, everyworked body together, it wasnt just one class, it was all of them, and alumni too. It ' made me proud. Both Sheen and Darryl were also very helpful in attempting to put together a last minute mural for the forgotten sophomore float. The class of 07 whose float won last year abandoned the idea that their float would be finished on time for this years parade. Its all good stated sophomore float chairman Andrew McKinlay-JoneEverybodys energy on the field really did take priority - and we already had the low down on the floats being made by the seniors and jun n one-on-o- s. nity, she said. And a closer-kni- t community is what these students were when they left Professor Valley. Instructors didnt forget the value of teaching students to clean up after themselves. Students were expected to participate in helping to prepare meals and clean up. They were asked to leave the camp more beautiful than they found it. And somewhere, in the quiet stillness of the red rocks that surround the Professor river valley, can still be heard the echoes of more than 20 individuals as they played organized games, chased each other around camp, repeated ghost stores, and learned the need for interdependence in order to make their community a better place. to bring you Excellence in Eye Surgery and Care close to home Post-operati- ve Byers, MD, PhD Eye Surgeon Timothy L. A prize would be given to the first rider to catch the hare. These days, the course is laid out ahead of time with signs marking the trail, and the first rider to the finish line wins. After competing in only three of the seven races, Kyle placed second in the National Open B class. He is looking forward to next year when he may be the youngest rider in the Over 50 class. 100-mil- e This National Desert Racing series consisted of seven races held in California, Utah, Nevada and Idaho. Dave and Kyle Cozzens competed in three of the seven races, two events that were held near Jericho, Utah; and one near Wells.
