Kimber Parry was nomi- nated as Student of Month because, as one teacher put it, She is an outstanding student that loves to truly learn. She has a thirst for knowledge that is not easily matched by her peers. Kimber is the daughter of Christy Parry and Edward Forner. She is a junior at GCHS. When asked about her favorite classes, Kimber said, I enjoy science because I like knowing how everything works and what it is made up then went on a walkabout for the second set, losing 6 in the second set. She wants to take all of the classes offered by USU that relate to science and health Austin Tyler is the other Student of the Month for September. He was nominated for his sincere attitude, active participation in school clubs and equally active participation in classroom learning. Austin is the son of Patricia Kidder Tyler and Brooks Kent Tyler. He is now a junior at GCHS. The class Austin enjoys the most is field biology. He said he enjoys it because he care. teacher mentioned, Austin is involved in many activities. He is mem Asked about community service projects, Kimber said, My main project has been volunteering at the hospital with the drill team. A few of the members visit the residents of the extended care unit every Saturday morning that we can. I really, enjoy my time with them. They are all wonderful people with unforgettable personalities. I am so happy that it has been working out; Ive become extremely attached to everyone there. In addition to classes and community service, Kimber makes time for many activities. She is member of the drill team (for which she has received numerous awards) and Stars dance group, Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society, the debate ber of the National Honor Society, CEASEFIRE, and Future Business Leaders of America. He is on the school newspaper staff, Devils Advocate. Austin is on the soccer team and a member of the climbing club. Outside of school Austin is a bass guitarist. Austins plans for the future include a pursuit of science. He said, I plan to go to college in Oregon, Washington or California and eventually get a masters in some field of biology. When asked what he thought would make GCHS a better school, Austin said, Better funding for the music programs. The Student of the Month program is sponsored by the local Elks Lodge under the direction of Frank Vacarro. The high school coordinator is Joan Gough. The students are also recognized by the Rotary Club and Grand County School District Board of Education. The program was started by the Elks to recognize students who were outstanding in the areas of character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic enjoys hands-o- n activities and sciences classes in general. Honors English is the class Austin finds most challenging.
