This year the College of Eastern Utah, Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission and the Utah Film be will Commission working with Country Pumpkin Productions to create a still better film and video festival. With a strong belief that the Canyonlands Film and Video Festival can remain accessible, (affordable and not a monster), to both audiences and film and videomakers, the festival is gearing up for 4 -- TalePolhemus Pictures, Venice, CA its third season. With submissions of 35mm film this year as well as the usual 16mm films and Vi" videotape the competition is likely to be keen. Nearly 100 inquires have been made to date and a number of strong works have already been submitted. Entries received include The Scottish Tale, (Polhemus Pictures, Venice Foster, Complete Pandemonium, San Francisco, CA.); The Unfortunate Pig, (Sine Modo Films, Hollywood, CA.); El Dorado",' (Green TV Inc., San Francisco, CA.); and Hero Sandwich, (Happy Trails Animation, Portland OR.). Terribilita, (Complete Pandemonium Productions) is'about a couple who live in their car and experience a heightened sensory awareness that sometimes accompanies boredom, repetition, and a surplus of spare time. Especially when said couple is hungry. Terribilita is the first of Mark Fosters process and it one basic THINK are the rules it the next where BUILD of day, productions and it third SHOOT the day, day. The Scottish Tale, a romantic comedy loosely based on Mac (Josiah Polhemus) and his brother Ian (Robert Ross) on how to settle their differences despite being in love with the same woman (whose name is Beth). It follows the story of a community of timber workers and environmentalists in conflict over a forest in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The festival focuses on independent film and video with selections falling into the following categories: short drama, feature drama, environmentalsocial documentary issues, outdoor adventure, experimentalavant-garde- , comedy, animation, westerns, southwest regional & student produced. According to Festival Director Nicholas Brown, the festival encourages works involving thought-provokin- g material and strives to find a balance between giving film and video makers exposure and yet creating a festival that is truly open to anyone with a quality submission. Tickets may be purchased at the Back of Beyond Bookstore, Mondo Cafe and at the door the nights of the shows. Ticket prices are SlOevening or$6screening block and early ticket sales allow a discount of $2 prior to April and $1 prior to April 8. The festival will be held Friday, April 1 8 at the Slickrock Cinemas 3 (580 Kane Creek) and Saturday, April 19 at Star 0 Hall (east Center St.). Screenings will be p.m. both evenings.
