This year the festival has received considerably higher quality entries than last year, as well as greater financial support from the local business community. The College of Eastern Utah, Moab lb Monument Valley Film Commission and Utah Film Commission have all been quite helpful," stated Festival Director Nicholas Brown. "People seem to step in at just the right moment when needs arise, I was looking for help in getting filmmakers out for the festival just the other day and the Travel Council asked if there was any way they could help, likewise Country Pumpkin Productions announced this week that screening schedules are soon to be finalized and advance ticket prices are still available through April 12 for the third annual Canyonlands Film and Video Festival. The extension of lower ticket prices to the community for an additional 12 days will allow potential filmvideo audiences to take a look at the offerings for this years festival in brochures which will be available shortly. The brochures will offer descriptions of the t films and videos to be screened and specific screening volunteers have sprung up for tasks ranging from hanging posters to writing press releases to critiquing and selecting films. The way the business community has come together to support this festival is really fantastic as well, thanks," said Brown. The community is encouraged to get ready for watching some unique and original films April 18 and 19. This years lineup looks to be the best yet as entries in all categories saw an increase in submissions from filmvideo makers from Canada and throughout the U.S. Films this year include the showing of a 35mm feature length drama and an animated short at the Slickrock Cinema for Friday night the 18th and some 16mm films as well. Saturday the 19th will feature both 16mm and 12 " videotape with at least one feature length film. "An advance celebrationfilm preview of some films may occur at the Star Diner the weekend of April 2 if we can pull it together, stated Brown. 11-1- Categories include short and feature length drama, comedy, animation, documentary, and student Film produced. running times 5 minute from a short to a range 100 minute feature length piece. The festival strives to remain accessible and affordable to audience and filmvideo producers alike. The festival really needs your support as a community and I really hope people can begin purchasing tickets as soon as schedules are printed, stated Brown. There are many bills associated with producing this event about to come due and advance purchases really help, he said. Tickets may be purchased at still very much needed. Inquiries may be directed to Country Sands Road, ticket information only 5, 801-25- or for 9- Back of Beyond Bookstore, Mondo Cafe, the College of Eastern Utah Moab Center or at the door, $8 per evening in advance and $10 the day of the shows. Schedules when available, (likely by next week), will also be available at these locations. Volunteers, especially technicians are CHOOSE LIFE - 3 By Evangelist Samuel A. Matthews Moab Church of Christ faith of Abraham was a man loyalty, dependability. Thus, Abraham was a man who was blessed by God. In Genesis 12:1-God said: Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will shew thee: and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Maybe Abraham was surprised that he was selected by God for a special mission. After all, he had grown up in a society of many gods. It is possible that Abraham was just learning to trust the ONE TRUE GOD. So why did God bless him? Maybe the answer is too simplistic. Tbo much could be assumed...or not enough assumed. Yet, the expression Blessed to Bless jumps out as one reads Genesis 12:1-3- ! God saw something special in Abraham that He could use for all the families of the earth. But what if Abraham had given God the response that we and our children often use - Just A Minute! Imagine God saying, Abraham, I want to bless you so that you can bless others. Then Abraham responds, OK Lord, but - Just A Minute! How much he (and we) would have missed. No, Abrahams response was immediate. The Bible says, So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him... (Gen. 12:4). Abraham and unborn generations could not afford to wait a minute. There was a timeliness about the command. Time was important! Abraham CHOSE LIFE! Im so glad. Have we missed it? Have we missed life? Do we treat God as we treat others about us, by saying: Just A Minute? Loved ones, do we rake in the blessings - health, wealth, opportunities, salvation - and keep them to ourselves? Are we missing life by not blessing others? If so, how much we (and they) have missed! Blessed to Bless should be the theme, the, verse, the chorus, the anthem of every believer. Not - blessed to be blessed again or to hoard from others. But lets be like Abraham. Lets allow God to keep the windows of Heaven opened unto us. As He blesses us, let us immediately be a blessing to others. Hauer reported that the bad news from his trip is that he missed a shot at a big Osceola gobbler and came home The good news is that the Florida citrus industry is expecting their best crop ever, so we might plan on paying a little less for oranges and grapefruit. empty-hande- d.
