Show May 27, 1999 Commissary changes holiday hours only close staff Holiday hours will be more convenient for shoppers at the Hill Commissary. The store is always closed Mondays, and until recently, was also closed on the Tuesday following a Monday holiday. The decision to keep the store open on Tuesdays was made by a Defense Commissary Agency operating board. Funds were made available when grocery trans- portation costs were reduced. "We'll only be closed one day a week during the holiday time," said Ray Gardea, Hill Commissary officer. "We will be funded for the additional day that we're going to be providing services. Normally, that would be some of the employees holiday so we'll be paying holiday pay." The first change at Hill will be Monday. The commis- - ICIioose from 5 5 J Memorial Day and open for nor- mal busi- ness hours Tuesday. The board's goal was to increase accessibility to commissary benefits and shopper convenience. An extra day during a holiday week will also provide a boost in business. "Now it's going to give the patrons an opportunity to shop," said Gardea. "That was one of the irritants in a survey that was done by DeCA. They didn't feel there was enough time for them to shop because we were closed for the holiday."
