Show The Daily Herald Thursday, November 21, 1996 t Rain, snow in forecast for state tonight Chance of rain By i ' PC IT--- ' Tht Associated Press Up to 4 inches of snow fell this morning in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, while freezing rain and scattered showers fell across the rest of the Midwest and in California. The Northeast was cloudy and cold, while a very cold air mass hung over the rest of the North, ' The South was fair and warm. A low pressure system over the Northeast should bring a few scattered snow showers to the region disturbance today. An upper-levwill bring snow showers to the western Great Lakes area this morning, with up to 5 inches possible in southeastern Minnesota and along the Wisconsin-Illinoi- s border. The snow will move east into northern Indiana and parts of west-eOhio through the day, with a few flurries in West Virginia by tonight. A stationary front across the Gulf region should bring scattered showers to the Southeast and states. High pressure building in the northern Plains should bring more snow flurries to the Dakotas, but the rest of the region should remain dry and fair. A system will move across Oregon and California today, bringing moderate rain to the states and into southern and central Nevada. Rain and some snow should move into Utah and Idaho by late tonight. Heavy rains caused part of Interstate 5 in Roseburg, Ore., to collapse this morning. Eight people have died in the record storm that hit Oregon and Washington this week. Tens of thousands of people remained without power. Record heat continued across the Southwest. Midland-Odess- a, Texas, hit 90 degrees Wednesday, breaking a 1988 record of 89. The nation's high Wednesday was 93 degrees in Sanderson, Texas.
