Show Thursday, December 3, fJL g ) JrxJyuUAyJ m Timely news, columns, features and social issues concerning the culture. . By RENEE C. NELSON Herald Today Editor Since the Festival of Trees is a benefit for the Primary Children's Medical Center, many of the trees are in memory of a child who has died or has been saved. Naturally many of these trees feature loveable animals perhaps reminiscent of the child's favorite toy animal. The Kay Lewis tree that went to the highest bidder for $4,060 is typical. An all white tree at the end of aisle B, it features skiers with hand-kn- it sweaters, with three loveable deer at the base. "Little Bo Peep and Her Sheep" is another charming example. Julie Pead, Bountiful, donated and decorated the tree which features sheep, hearts and closepin Idaho, to flip the switch lighting dozens of rows of glittering Christmas trees for the 17th annual festival. iff rJRS -- r w4 the horse motif including one horses. with is big this year not only in trees but in other decor, including centerpieces. That's why, off the top. they decided to simply take a lower markup on their furs! They can do fm that because their costs and over- head are lower: They own their building on historic South Temple (so don't pay rent or part of their profits to anyone) and they own their huge inventory (so the cost of borrowing furs is not passed on.)
