JANNEY Herald Staff Writer The man responsible for the history of the Santaquin Stake of the Church of Jesus Saints says Christ of Latter-da- y he has learned a lesson. "We learned that everybody should be keeping a personal history and doing genealogy," says Myron Olson. He wrote to all the stake presi- dents throughout the Church," says Olson. "I was the stake historical arts correspondent, so I was called to organize the committee." Olson says writing the book took a lot of effort from all the committee members. "We started by going back to the earliest years, the time when that the pioneers first settled was about 1851 for Santaquin," he I Stake. "We tried to find some of these people and hunted all over for them. Then we would find one of their ancestors in our own community." The history includes names and pictures of most of the missionaries from the stake, as far back as 1851 and 1852, he says. The book is more than a list of Santaquin Stake events, Olson says. "There are some personal stories, too. There is a history of one of our first bishops who was a lem." Max Nelson, the former Santaquin Stake president, provided a lot of the pictures for the history, Olson says. "Over the years when he was the stake president he took pictures of various people as they were called to positions. He got pictures of all the bishops, stake people anything of an says. "We had about nine people on the committee to begin with. Later we added two photographers, a designer, three proofreaders and six typists. It took us about eight years." Silver City, Diamond, Knightsville, Homansville, and Robertsville are now all ghost towns, but they used to be active mining towns and each had a large following of LDS members." Olson says writing the history has already had one beneficial effect. "It started a lot of people doing their own personal history," he says.
