(UPI) Connors has made believers of everyone, except her father. "I just can't believe it ever happened." Jim Connors told a Capital Times reporter. "You would never know. She's the same happy kid she ever was." What happened was a kidney transplant nearly two years ago. Lisa, now 17, received a kidney from her mother, Marianne, on guard in the state," said Bruin coach Debbie Freestone. "And Carolyn did a great rebounding job against taller players." Brereton and Loveall, the only other two underclassmen on the honor squad, are both juniors for Provo. Brereton. a guard, used her quickness to great advantage this year, while forward Loveall used quickness, jumping ability and strength to make up for being and playing inside. only The Bulldogs were probably the quickest team in the state this year and Loveall and Brereton will be back to make them a strong state contender again. Rasmussen, a senior guard for July 2, 1982. Early this month, Lisa won the uneven parallel bars title in state public schools gymnastics meet. Her Mt. Horeb team claimed the Class B crown. "Lisa had been having bladder infections a year or two before," her mother explained. "They never could pinpoint the reason. When they kept recurring, they did some tests and found out her kidneys were drying up. "They didn't expect them to dry up overnight or anything, so there wasn't any big hurry for the transplant." Things changed suddenly, however, and doctors told Mrs. Connors she could donate a kidney. "I was just anxious to get it over with," Lisa said. "I was really happy to find out my mom could give me one of her American Fork, didn't get as much attention as some of the other region players this year, since her team did not make the state tourney, but she is one of the premier players in the valley. She captained her team this season After surgery, Lisa was amazed at the way she felt. "I felt like a new person, like they said I would," she said. "Before the transplant, I was always tired. I still went out for gymnastics, but I could never last the whole hour of practice. I felt like I was dragging all the time." Gymnastics coach Sue Roller noticed the difference, too. "Before, she was not as peppy as she should have been," Roller: said. "She was pretty sad that she had to give up gymnastics at the time. She was just sick and had to sit out her sophomore year. But this year, look out." Lisa got permission from her doctor last year to return to the gym, but they didn't want her on the bars. "Every once in a while, I'd see her sneak over there," Roller said, "and I'd say, 'Lisa, you're not supposed to be there yet.' And she'd say, 'I'm okay. Don't worry.' She knew she wanted to do the bars this season." Roller made her get doctor's permission this year to work on the bars. Lisa had to design her routine so as not to injure her transplanted kidney. "She has really perfected it," the coach said. Cougars Qualify Two for Nationals Starting May 1 the discus with a toss of 171-which is good enough to qualify for nationals.
