Donald Mais. The churches are the Springville United Presbyterian Church and the Provo Congregational Church, L'CC, which have sharply different forms of government, although they are both expressions of the Christian faith. Adults and young people of both congregations are gathering each Sunday for one-howorkshops in which they are exploring aspects of Christianity and contributing their thoughts on the outreach and mission of their churches. Mr. Mills said the purpose of the workshops is to prepare the congregations for the arrival of a new minister who will serve the two congregations under a unique yoking arrangement. Both churches are currently working together through a joint pastor nominating committee to find a minister to serve them. Each workshop involves a study of biblical background, and exploration of ur the workshop topic ia small discussion groups. The topics are as follows: 1. The Christian Church its nature and form. As the democratic process has now and then congealed into patterns of irrelevance and injustice, it has been necessary to take the long, hard look again, under the pressure of a new trauma, and to experience a rebirth," he said. "The Church, took was born out of a Death and Resurrection, initially, and many times since. As a human institution, the Church is always imperfect and It has repeatedly been the object of contempt from its adversaries, and criticism from its friends, often for a very good reason," he declared. He continued, "few will deny that conventional Protestantism has lost much of its "protest." A parallel fact, however, is that there are also stirrings of vital dynamism, disturbing our uneasy slumbers as we look again critically at ourselves and to the Bible, and to Jesus, the author of our faity, for impulses to resurrection "In the process we have our chance to find new life and strength in the service in God,'' he concluded lis worship. In modern terms, what is it "to go into all the world and preach the gospel?" In presenting the series, Mr. Mills declared, "Most changes for the better in our lives occur when some event or situation calls us to take a hard look at ourselves. The process can be awkward and painful, but it can also be fruitful and creative." "The same possibility obtains in the case of our institutions. Mr. Painter has also been an active member of the community belonging and serving in many civic organizations. He has been a booster for baseball and football little leagues. He has been a working member of the Nephi Enterprize organization and the Nebo Heights development now getting 9 underway. All members of the family are active in the LDS church. Mr. Painter is currently a bishop's counselor and his wife serves on the Stake Relief Society board. One thing the family has strived to do over the years is keep family traditions alive. One of those traditions is having Thanksgiving dinner together each year. On that day they often seat 28 to 30 people at the large family room table. At Christmas time they dispense with a big meal but Mr. Painter always cooks breakfast for all the children and grandchildren as they drop in to visit. Zoma thinks eight having grandchildren is great and enjoys having them come visit as often as possible, also. This year the students produced a readers theatre entitled "Spoon River Anthology." This was a play that featured a series of epitaphs given by the departed souls themselves. Painter NEPHI family started out with the notion of having about four children but as the years went on the number grew to ten. "We have loved each one in turn as they came," said Mr. Painter. And the seven boys were especially welcome since he was an only son. ''Over the years we've had some good laughs at other peoples reaction to our large numbers," said the mother, Zoma Painter. "It isn't every family that takes up a whole row of seats in a theatre." She said many times the family was aware of people in passing cars counting the number of children in their vehicle. "I'm sure we've been taken for a Sunday School class a time or two." And the double takes from waitresses when they gave their order at a Drive-I- n window have caused them a lot of amusement as well. Both parents stated they couldn't have coped without the support of the other and though life was sometimes hectic they've managed to keep up with day to day events and problems. Mr. Painter has been especially grateful for his sons since they have joined him in his car sales service. "I don't know if I'd be in business today if it weren't for the support of my sons," said Mr. Painter. He presently employs three of his boys full time and his other sons have worked often on a part time basis. "My boys feel they are a part of the business and I rely on them a lot." Having several sonr also assures heirs to the family business which was first started in 1945 by Mr. Painter's father Fred and his uncle Reese. Last November the 196 South Main location was changed to a larger lot at 1100 North Main. Five of the Painter children are still ' unmarried although they are not a at home.
