Plans for the enlarging of the national week to an entire month were made by the Utah Valley Public Communications Council of the LDS Church, directed by Dr. Laei J. Woodbury, chairman. Separating the month into four specific family centered weeks, has been designated November as "Family Fun Week," as Physical Fitness Week," 4 as "National Family Week," and 0 as "Family of the Year Week." "We're enthusiastic about the potential National Family Week has for all the residents of the valley," said Karen Bybee, National Family Week Director for Utah Valley Family Month. "The council coordinated local activities with the national week last year and achieved excellent results with a Family Month," said Miss Bybee, She said since the initiation of the 4-- 7 18-2- 25-3- National Family Week in 1977, the idea has received wide political sup- port. "Last year every mayor and commissioner in Utah valley signed a proclamation supporting National Family Week," Miss Bybee said. "In addition, we received support from Governor Matheson aixj our entire state congressional delegation." The drafted resolution calls for state and local governments across the nation to observe the week with ' appropriate ceremonies and activities." "Last year we sent the honored family to Disneyland for two days," Miss Bybee said. "We plan to do even more than that this year." This family celebration is unique to Utah Valley, according to Miss Bybee. "No other area in the nation has expended National Family Week into a month-lon- g event honoring families," she said. "We want to show the world that the family is alive and well in Utah Valley."
