Show Top Country Music Stars Are Nominated Wednesday, September 2, ',: h 1 ' v Jf - oN - Oct. 12. Slinky Barbara Mandrell. who last year became only the third woman ever to be named the CMA's top entertainer, again received the Entertainer of the Year nomination. Miss Mandrell, who starred In her own television show this year, also received nominations for top female vocalist and best single for "I Was Country (When Country Wasn't Cool)." Alabama is the newest of those artists or groups nominated for top entertainer. The foursome broke into the national country music scene in 193Q with the hit single, "My Home's In Alabama," which garnered them two nominations but no award out of last year's CMA show. Jones, the veteran among the nominees who overcame the bottle, divorce and bankruptcy to become the big winner last year, is considered by many country singers to be one of the e greats. He gave credence to his longtime reputation as a two weeks ago when he missed a concert date, a recording session and a meeting at which he was to make a change in management that he hoped would cure his financial blues. In the past week, Jones did make a recording session date. He also appeared in bankruptcy court wearing jeans and a shirt to straighten out problems with his original bankruptcy filing that listed $1.5 million in debts. On the strength of the hit single, "Old Flame," and the album, "Feels So Right," Alabama was nominated Saturday for five of country music's most prestigious awards, including the coveted Entertainer of the Year. The four farm boys from Alabama Teddy Gentry, Mark Herndon and cousins Randy Owen and Jeff Cook struggled for a decade in honky tonks, high school dances and discos to become the big surprise for the CMA nominations this year. Jones, whose personal problems have received as much publicity as his recent professional comeback, also numbers Entertainer of the Year among his four nominations. His hit, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," was nominated for Song of the Year, a songwriter's award.
