Show Sunday, Februar- - 29, 1976, THE HERALD, Provo, Great Fishing Here at Home There are still lots of good fishing holes around this great cowtry of ours, but fishing right here at home has to rank with the best of them. s a visitor once said, to a Utah County angler, "You live in some of the best fishing country in the world. I've fished from Greenland to New Zealand, and while I'll admit that there are better waters than you have here, for all around angling it would be hard to beat Utah." Perhaps here in Utah County we take our good fishing for granted. For many people the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and they can always imagine a better fishing hole some place else. The Provo River is an excellent trout stream, and some big German Browns have been caught right here. Utah Lake holds walleye, catfish, white bass, and other species. Hebar Valley is in the heart of great fishing country. It is full of good trout streams, and Deer Creek Reservoir is a fisherman's dream. Strawberry Reservoir is one of the most popular fishing spots in the state, and it is known throughout the west to enthusiastic fishermen. In the southern part of the valley there are also good fishing spots. Hobble Creek, Thistle Crrek, Halls Crossing, and Diamond Creek are just minutes away from residents of and Springville, Mapleton, Spanish Fork. Scofield Reservoir is also another very popular fishing spot within easy reach of Central Utah fishermen. Salem, and Payson, Santaquin all have good fishing nearby at Maple, Red, and Payson Lakes, not to mention the streams that pour off Nebo Mountain. Burristons Pond is good fishing for Nephi residents, and Yuba Reservoir is turning into Utah-P- 31C age K one of the state's best warm water species ponds. Some of fishermen Utah's haven't caught on to Yuba's versatility yet. Of course, Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge cap the list of top fishing spots, and although it takes a day to get to them they are still popular and accessible for Central Utah residents. Maple Bench Campground To Be Reopened Maple Bench Campground in Payson Canyon will be reopened by the Uinta National Forest this summer after being dosed for two seasons due to extensive damage to the campground road. The campground, a jumping point to Maple Lake, annually plays host to about off 12,000 according visitors-day- s to the Forest Service.
