THE HERALD, Provo, Fillmore Has FILLMORE, Millard County When Brigham Young proposed that Fillmore be the territorial community the capitol, was in the center of the geographical proposed state. Staines, under the direction of Brigham Young in 1851. Anson Call lead a group of pioneers into the area to assist in construction. After four years effort, which included hand quarrying the sandstone and handhewing the timbers, the south wing was completed in time for the 1855 legislative session. The portion completed now stands as a museum, thanks to efforts on the part of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and state citizens.
