Meet Remember LELAtlD First T Some of the older fans who now watch modern scientific football and record - breaking track performances in the new Brigham Young University stadium can remember when athletic activity took place on a rock - strewn dirt field about where the Joseph Smith Building now stands. In 1904 men with teams of horses and scrapers donated their time to level the land and develop a suitable track with banked turns. The land was surveyed by Prof. E. D. Partridge. Wooden bleachers were constructed on the south side of the field on the brow of the hill. The grandstand was used until April 15, 1932, when it was destroyed by fire. The west side of Temple Hill was chosen for a football field and (MA Field? site stadium when President Franklin S. Harris arrived on campus in 1921. With students and faculty donating much of the labor, the field was leveled and the East Union Canal diverted into a syphon under the field.
