JUNE 8, 1873. l, In France. A brief dispatch from London, announces that President McMahon yesterday gave aa audisnce to Prince lluuaparte, the "Plon Plon" of the Preach army. Short as is the the announcement of this visit is of great consequence, as leading tjthe inference that the favorite marshal of the late' Empire, and the mes-hnpj- e, principal representative of the dynasty that was overthrown ou the field of Sedan, are on the same cordial terms that existed between them during the halcyon day3 of the Na- poleonic rule. The resignation of Thiers as President, and the election of an avowed imperialist, who has never swerved from his fealty to the throne of the Cesars, as the head of the sot dt'sant French Republic, could cot fail to be accepted as an acknowledgment that What that a change is demanded. change may be is yet problematical, but McMahon's promotion "was at lc:;.--t a partial endorsement of the movement to call back Eugenie from lu-exile, and to establish a regency during the minority of her son. Now, the warm reception of a Napoleon by McMahon, and his presence at the Capital, cannot be construed otherwise than as a step to the restoration of the Empire, and the rehabilitation of Prance under a regime the memory of which is cher-ihc- d by the people. The Republic r . was but a temporary expedient, reported to for the purpose of assuaging the asperities of contending factions, and to hush up jealousies which have been so baneful to the interests of that country. The visit of Prince Napoleon is purely not without a deep significance, and may be portentous of events likely to create great commotions throughout the continent of a, Mc-N.e- the nineteenth century. Farr for assistance from the city by way of investment build the Weber county portion of the Utah Northern Railroad, was received favorably, and the Council expressed its approbation of the work and determination to assist. On motion, the Marshal was directed to erect a suitable liberty pole in the ' City Hall yard. It was resolved that the Fourth of July be observed as a general holiday, and that a recommendation for the suspension of business on that day be published in the Ogden Junction. The Council then went into Committee of the Whole. On the of the Council, Alderman Moore, Chairman of the above named Committee, reported, stating that no conclusion had been arrived at concerning the appointment of Recorder, and asked for lurther time. The request was granted and the Council adjourned to meet at the City Hall, on Monday, July 7th, 1873, at 2 p.m. Pi rb Flovr. Mr.. Mark Hall was appointed chairman ef the meeting, and Mr. Jos. Hall, secretary. The chairman said the object of calling the together on the present occasion was, first, to hear a report from the trustees, of the financial condition of the District, and then to consider the propriety of levying a tax to build a new school-hous- e at the south end of the District, the present one being too small and otherwise inconvenient for school purposes. It was also necessary to raise funds to complete the improvements in and around the school-hous- e in this part of the District. Mr. Thomas Doxey, Chairman of the. Trusttes, read the financial report, which was very satisfactory to the meeting. He said the building of the new its appointments and other improvements in the District, would cost, according to the estimate made by the trustees, a little over two thousand dollars; and they proposed to levy a tax of one per cent, on ell the taxable property in the Second School District, to raise the d amount. After some discussion on the subject, the meeting unanimously voted for the aforementioned tax. The new school-hous- e is to be built of adobies, and is to be 33x23 Icet. In a vote of thanks the present expressed their confidence in and their appreciation of the past labors of the trustees.
