The Forker line plowed into the Lehi backfield and blocked Wingreen's attempted fourth down kick and the Dons recovered on the Lehi 26. A short pass play picked up seven yards, Lowell Anderson plunged for one, and a called interference on a pass gave the Dons a first and 10 on the Pioneer 15. A penalty set the Dons back but Anderson ran around end to regain 10 yards ana Larry Gardner caught Paul Clark with a pass that was good for the touchdown. A run for the extra point was short and the Pioneers still had their 74 lead at the end of the third quarter. Lehi's defense failed to get to the Spanish Fork quarterback in the final period, and the passing of Larry Gardner and Lowell Anderson, and the running of Anderson proved to be more than the Pioneers could handle. Penalties still plagued the Don's offensive, but they worked their wav to the Lehi 30 and after several passes had misfired Gardner caught Chris Anderson with a pass that wound up in the end zone. Blake Nielsen's kick was good and 3ie Dons had their first lead in the ball came. Completely outplayed by the vicious, hard driving play of tne Fioneers who chalked un four first downs to one for the Dons in the first period, end tnree tirst downs in the second period to two for the Forker Eleven, Coach Del Roy Anderson's boys came out of their slump and staged a rally that Lent could not stop. Spanish Fork threatened twice in the second period but penalties stopped their scoring drive. Beginning on their own 20 the Dons marched downfield to the Lehi 40 where Larry Gardener faded back for a pass then saw daylight around right end and romped to the Lehi 13 but a penalty called back the play and set the Dons back to their own 41. Nothing daunted by their failure to score the Dons struck again with Gardner slipping a short aerial to Lowell Anderson and the speedy back ran all the way to the goal line, but again a penalty was called and the Forkers fumbled as the gun sounded the end of the scoreless first half. Lehi drew first blood the first tiwe the Pioneers got their hands on the ball early in the third quarter. Lowell Anderson's punt was grounded on the Lehi 31 and the fired up Pioneers took advantage of their big chance. Terry Kirkham, and bruising fullback for the Pioneers, took the hand-of- f from quarterback Kim Cooper, drove through the center of the line, wheeled to his right and raced 69 yards for the first touchdown of the ball game.
