First, up on the bulletin board is a note that Prep, a new record label owned by Capitol, will bring out its first albums next month. Among the artists recording on the newcomer are Sam Butera, noted jazz saxaphonist; Bob Roubian, singer, and Mamie Van of band leader Ray Anthony. Also on the go is Andy Griffith, the talking hillbilly who scored so heavily on wax and the Broadway stage. Andy will tour this month, pushing his new album, the Capitol sound-trac- k release of ''Face in the Crowd." And speaking of male singers, Guy Mitchell, who finally hit it big this year, negotiated a new pact with Columbia which will assure him a handsome return for a number of years to come. re I - ' . TOPS ON THE RECORD SHELVES: Next Sunday is Father's Day, and if you want to make Pop a happy, satisfied gent, why not give him Columbia's Rodgers and Hammerstein "Cinderella" package? Taken from the video show, this is one of the best efforts to come along this year, and Dad will love listening to Julie Andrews, Edith Adams, and the rest of the fine cast. Everybody gathered around the phonograph? Then let's start off with the sound track from "Funny Astaire-Ka- y ThompFace," Paramount's new Audrey Hepburn-Fre- d hi-son starrer. Verve not only has given this an excellent fi reproduction, but the packaging is outstanding. Follow up with RCA's "The Spirit of St. Louis," another original sound track from the Jimmy Stewart movie. Franz Waxman has produced an exciting score here. On the vocal front, try Vik's new release, titled simply "The Three Chuckles." Some fine work on some old chestnuts. Still on the vocalist kick, try "The Ink Spots in Hi Fi," Verve's biscuit which features the singing stars in some of their greatest hits. MUSIC FOR FAMILY LISTENING: rt 50 COVERING THE CLASSICS: Peter Cornelius lived a two-acomic years, but one of the heritages he left behind was a opera, "The Barber of Bagdad." Angel has released the opera, featuring Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Nicolai Gedda, Oskar Czerwenka, and the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus. Also on this label is "Iturbi Treasures," featuring the master playing selections from Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy, Granados, and Lazar. too-sho- ct JAZZOMANIA: Jazzophile or not, you'll never get enough of "April in Paris," the new Count Basie bash on Verve. It's the Count's best one to date. And one more from Verve is "Here Come the Girls," with such performers as Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Anita O'Day, Toni Harper, and Jane Powell. Not real jazz all the way, but you won't want to miss it. Atlantic asked Tom Talbert to pick tunes from the works of Bix Beiderbecke, Fats Waller, and Duke Ellington, then produce an album. listening.
