First, they had to deal with conflicting schedules. Volleyball practice and tennis matches would often dash and second, some of their teammates weren't very supportive. careful and I'm now taking on the difficult task of determining who might be the right pick for Utah County's 2004 High School Fall Dream Team selection. Through the first round (i.e. the teams I've been able to watch during the first half of the season), I see two teams as the obvious team, powerful and confident after 10 straight wins. I'm going to go down my checklist to see if I can determine which team has the stuff to become the 2004 Utah County Fall Dream Team. Darnell Dickson DAILY ; HERALD One of the most misleading statistics in college football is rushing yards. The NCAA lumps sacks into rushing totals, which makes no sense, because a sack occurs when you're trying to pass the ball, not run it. Leading into Friday's BYU-Bois-e State game, the rushing numbers are pot what they might appear. Let's crunch some numbers, shall we? For instance, Boise State is listed as No. 15 in the country against the run at 78.3 yards allowed per game. Adjusting for sacks, the actual number is 88.7. Not a huge difference, but a first down, nonetheless. BYU is currently averaging 30 yards per game rushing, 116th in the country. Adjusting for sacks, the Cougars are actually averaging 58 yards per game, a difference of 28 yards. BYlTs rushing average per attempt goes up from one yard per attempt to 2J25 yards. Even with the adjustments, BYUs running game is a huge concern three games into the 2004 seasoa Last year, . See COUGARS, B2 |
