Warner DAILY HERALD were third in their own Bad to the Bone Tournament with a 1 record and are 2 in other preseason action. "We have one of the tallest teams in the region, but we still have a lot of work to do as far as getting the machine oiled and getting it together," Bills said. "I don't know anything about what the new coaches in the region are doing, but the talk I hear is that A.F. is tough and Springville will be good. I don't know anything about Payson." . Provo is led by a trio of seniors in senior setter Cassie King, middle blocker Kylie Peterson and defensive specialist Christa Schedule 6-- Provo High School coach Wendy Bills has figured it out. She has cultivated the best of both worlds. Get this. She describes her team as "young and experienced." Does such a thing exist? It does at Provo where the majority of its players are busy playing club volleyball in the offseason. So when Bills says she has just three seniors on a team that finished second in Region 6 with an 2 record last year, don't even think for a second this year's team will be a pushover. The Bulldogs are the coaches' consensus as the team to beat in Region 6 and used the preseason to justify those opinions of the coaches. Provo finished second in the Bingham tournament, where they posted a 2 record. The Bulldogs vol-leyb- 8-- 6-- The turnaround has been led by seniors Sandy Marvin, Kelly Brereton, and Annette Marvin, along with Kiley Martinson, Delenna Ralph and junior Aubrey Ortbn. "We're a very scrappy team that picks up everything and we serve well," said first-yecoach Jodi Beck. . 2-- Today , All games 6:30 p.m. Spanish Fork at Payson Timpview at Provo American Fork at Springville ar nament and since then are 2 in preseason play. "Our strength is the way we play together. This team has really bonded," said Spanish Fork coach Amber Newell. "If they stay consistent I think we can be competitive." can Fork could have the mix to be the surprise team in Region 6. "I haven't seen everyone play. I'm just guessing, but I'd say us and Provo will fight it out for the top spot," Murray said. "Then Springville or Payson will probably be third." 0-- ' American Fork for the future. After a two-wee-k layoff, Provo begins Region 6 play tonight when it hosts Timpview. Here's a look at the other Region 6 teams. Payson For a team that finished last in Region 6 last season and didn't win a game, the Lions have made as much noise in the preseason as in anyone. Payson the preseason with wins over Mountain View, Orem, Timpanogos and Cedar City. Bush. The youth movement consists of Nalani Loben-daha sophomore outside hitter and Ari Logan, a sophomore middle blocker. Alex Probert, a junior, and Lori Wilson, a sophomore, give the Bulldogs a nucleus to build on n, The Cavemen have gone 2 in the preseason under first-yecoach Chad Murray and appear to have the pieces to challenge for a region title. Jenna Toone, a sophomore setter, and Shantell Durrant, a junior middle blocker, have teamed up with Alisha King, a sophomore outside hitter, and Jhordan Teo, another sophomore to help this young team make some noise. Add the senior leadership of Linsey Lesser and Elise DeWitt, and Ameri 2-- ar hunt, Of all the teams in the last region, Timpview year's Region 6 champions may have been the least likely to survive an injury to its key player. But that's what the T'Birds will have to deal with after last year's Region 6 MVP Chelsea Bair, a senior, was lost for the season with a knee injury. Making matters worse for Timpview has been the loss of four other projected starters, two to grades and two others who opted not to play. When Timpview coach Steve Yamada says the T'Birds are rebuilding, " The Dons are hoping to improve from last year " where they brought up the rear in Region 6. The hope for a playoff berth starts with the experience of three returning starters. Junior Diana Stewart is the key to the middle. Senior setter Jill Roberts and senior outside hitter Mele Vaitohi all started last year. Other players who made an impact that return are Laura Wesson, Jade Christensen and Nicole Creer.
