Show Free Press - Wednesday, April 23, 1997 - Page 8 Free Arbor Day events offered in Richfield By BRIAN BRINKERHOFF Outdoors Correspondent In celebration of Arbor Day, the public is invited to attend the Natural Resource Festival, a free "The Great event, entitled Outdoors: We're All in It Together," located at the Sevier Valley Applied Technology Center (200 S. 800 West in Richfield). This event, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. until noon, promises to provide many opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and learning experiences for those interested in wildlife. Exhibits at the event will include scorpions, bats, wild horses, a live hawk and genuine dinosaur bones. In addition, an earthquake exhibit will shake up participants. Youth and adults, interested in archaeology, geology, animal tracking, noxious weeds, wetlands, or fossils and gems, will find something of interest. Other topics, covered at the festival, include mining, aspen ecology, outdoor etiquette, recycling, water quality, wilderness survival, and recreational opportunities in the great outdoors. Participants can learn more about the art of spear throwing and tiy a wilderness obstacle course. The Hansen Planetarium will sponsor a star party Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m., to help budding astronomers gain a greater appreciation of the heavens. On Saturday, April 26, more than 1,000 seedlings will be given away at 9 a.m., in honor of the holiday. According to Kelly Allen, Area Manager for Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands, American Plum, Nanking Cherry, Eastern Redcedar, Lilac and Austrian Pine seedlings will be d available on a basis, with a limit of two free trees per family. To celebrate Arbor Day, volunteers will plant 40 trees on Saturday to provide additional beauty and recreational opportunities in the area.
