Softball team stumbles in By TRACY WILSON After sprinting out to an early 10-- 1 record, Lehi High School's Softball team has dropped three games in a row to bring its mark to 10-- 4 as the girls prepare to head into league play Friday at home against Park City and at Uintah on Tuesday, weather permitting. Springville and Delta each won one-ru- n over contests, 1 and the talented Lady Pioneers. Richfield earned a 1 win at home over the visiting Purple and White. Stacy Johnson leads the Pioneer nine at the plate with a .525 batting average on 40 times at bat in 14 games. Close on her heels is Katye Gillman with .513 hitting in 39 at bats. Crystal Reese is hitting a solid .487 with 39 chances. Slugging percentage is computed when a batter hits with runners on base. Leading the team in that category is Johnson who has hit in 97.5 percent of the time with runners ahead of her, 39 total bases on six doubles, three triples and two home pre-seas- ' w ' f 2-- 8-- 4-- Athlete of the week Nate is currently a member of the varsity baseball team and has been playing for Lehi for four years. He plays the positions of short-stoand catcher and has a .539 batting average. His love of sports also includes football. He has played for Lehi's varsity football team for three years and was named to the Second Team All State this year. He is also a member of the wrestling team and has been a varsity wrestler since he was a freshman. Nate is an outstanding athlete and has been a varsity let- p Nate Nelson terman for four years.' In addition to school sports he is a member of Lehi's debate team and is an outstanding student with a 3.1 GPA. In his spare time he enjoys lifting weights, hunting, camping, and being in the His goals after graduation are to go to college and pursue the field of criminology and to continue playing baseball. In general, the BLM's proposed rulings, will revise or change existing wilderness regulations in five categories including the following: Definitions of certain terms, such as "mechanical transport. Uses of Wilderness Areas. Prohibited acts and penalties. Special provisions affecting certain uses. Access to private property that is completely surrounded by Wilderness Areas. Comments on the proposed changes must be submitted in writing by April 21, 1997 to: The Bureau of Land Management, Administrative Record, 401 LS, 1849 C Street, N.W., Washington BLM-man-ag- Outdoors Correspondent Public comment will be accepted for an extended period, until April 21, concerning various Wilderness Area activities. Members of Congress and other interested parties requested an extended comment period to encourage anyone interested to share their input, regarding the proposed rules, published in the Federal Register, Dec. 19, 1996. The proposed changes revises and updates existing regulations, regarding Congressionally designated Wilderness Areas on BLM-manage- d land. Included in the change, sailboats and sailboards will be considered as "mechanical transport," in which cannot be used Wilderness Areas. In addition, clarification will be added to specify when certain devices, such as fixed anchors, for rock climbing will be appropriate in Wilderness Areas. Under the new changes, American Indians will now be runs. Reese leads the team in with 17 on two doubles, one triple and two home runs. Her slugging average is .744. Gillman has a slugging average of .821 with 14 RBIs on two doubles, two triples and two home runs. Josalyn Chamberlain and Heather Lund each have nine RBIs; Chamberlain has five doubles. Although Rachel Bailey, leadoff batter, has no extra base hits, she has four RBIs while leading the team in walks with nine; she bats at a .326 average. Gillman has scored 17 of the Pioneers' 97 runs in the 14 games. Katie Heaps, Rebecca Allan, Callie Gillman and Katie Troutman are other regulars who make their bats heard, all batting near or above .200. Pitching chores are handled by Reese, Allan and Kim Allan. Together they have held opponents to an of 1.469 per game. Reese has appeared in six of the Pioneers' 14 games and has a 1 record with two saves and an ERA of 1.795. She has 33 strike outs in 39 innings and has walked seven while giving up 34 hits and 22 runs. Becca Allan has chucked for 35 innings, winning three games and losing three while being credited with one save. She has a team leading 1.4 ERA and has struck out 28 while giving up 11 walks. Little sister Kim has only pitched seven innings but has not had an earned run scored against her, allowing only two runs on two hits while facing 28 batters. She has nine strike outs in her seven frames. The fielding average for Lehi's team is at a glossy .922 on 174 chances led by right fielder K. Gillman with 15 catches and no errors. Reese, pitcherfirst baseman, has one error in 34 chances for a .971 pre-seaso- n average. R. Allan, also a pitcherfirst baseman, has only two errors in 48 chances. Playing the hot spot at shortstop, Bailey has nine assists, 30 put outs and only three errors for a .929 average. Heaps, in left field or first base, has a .939 average with two errors in 33 chances. Up the middle at second base, Lund has fielded 41 balls and has a .854 average. C. Gillman, playing third base, has 32 chances to her credit with only four errors for a .875. Johnson, Lehi's freshman catcher, is credited with 21 put outs, two assists and two errors for a .920 average. This is a young team that is capable of going all the way.
