By KATHERINE SCHROEPPEL The State Developmental outdoor Center's historical amphitheater with its big stone benches for sitting on and the lush foiliage all around makes a fitting setting for the Book of Mormon Theatre Festival currently being put on by Keystone Productions. The Life of Nephi 111 Part One is one of two productions the festival is offering. (No, the other is not part two. It is called Reign of the Judges.) Nephi III details the existence of a people in America from about 6 B.C. to 21 or 22 A D. as related in the Nephi III, played by Travis Dale Isaacson, has to grow up fast when his father Nephi (Darin Anderson) is called by the Lord to depart out of the land. The younger Nephi is left to be the spiritual leader of the people during a troubling time. The Gadianton Robbers are in the land. They are the insidious bud guys in this play and are quite nasty. Thankfully, good does triumph in the end. Due to Anderson's extensive research of ancient American sources (pottery, murals and stone carvings), the set, the costumes and the weapons are quite authentic and gave a true feeling of this distinctive period in time Directed by Corey Ewan. the actors all gave solid, professional performances and the dialogue had a natural flow to it At times, however, characters stepped out ot the light to hold conversations with their faces in the shadows. It may have made good Book of Mormon. Written by Darin Andersen, the show begins with Samuel the Lamanite prophesying to the people of Zarahemla of their destruction if they do not repent. The main characters are mostly taken from the Book of Mormon with the exception of a few that were added to spice up the story line, which is quite interesting.
