This is just an option we presented as a possibility said Blaine Comer of Versar. "It utilizes the right of way we already have there. It creates more of a controlled roadway." Comer emphasized that the proposal was not "a hard and fast rule," but was "merely a concept." Kirkpatrick suggested that both emergency vehicles and school buses would pose particular problems for the new design. "What's going to happen for nine months out of the year with school buses," said Kirkpatrick. "Are we going to increase traffic in our residential area." Comer explained that both State Street and 700 South, the latter of which would need to be improved, would serve as alternate routes for Main Street. He pointed out that buses travel in residential areas to get to the schools, but Kirkpatrick rebutted with the idea that "Main Street is the main road between American Fork and Cedar Valley." Kirkpatrick also talked about the need for traffic signals on Main Street. "We've seen a real change in our traffic flow since we've had Walker's and Wendy's," he said. "With our traffic flow now, that's our biggest problem, and secon darily by the high school." The Utah Department of Transportation has (UDOT) already approved the installation of a traffic light at 500 E. Main; Comer said that the city had recently received another letter from UDOT explaining that 850 E. Main had met the warrants for a light, but that UDOT wanted to examine the need for a light on the northbound Main Street exit of the freeway to determine which of the two latter lights to install first. Kirkpatrick also address the issue of the traffic problem on 1200 East and said the reference to the number of accidents on 1200 East was "unsubstantiated." He did say, however, that the intersection of 1200 East and State Street was a problem, and suggested to Mayor Bill Gibbs, who was in attendance at the meeting, look into the problem of high weeds in the area, which affects the visibility at the landscaping: v U& fiir to illc i .itlt turn lir j jgt ifittrjicti min. 8 6" location. Matt Ripkin of Fehr and Peers said that the information was obtained from UDOT and that it did not specify that the majority of accidents on the street occurred at that particular intersection. Two other discussions of note included a Utah County move to abandon the road at 2100 North (county address: 10000 North) and the possible closure of the Southern Pacific railroad crossing at 1220 North. "It would be against Lehi City's best interest for them Utah County to abandon that roadway," said Comer, explaining that there were "coordination issues with American Fork, Highland and the This is one proposal for Lehi Main Street's configuration in transportation plan now being studies by the city. think the railroad county." Planning Commissioner Reldon Barnes expressed concern about the move to close the railroad crossing at 1220 North, citing the number of subdivisions throughout the city that only have one entrance. "We're getting so many subdivisions with only one entrance. I think we've got to start looking at these subdivisions," he said, and about the closure, "Personally, I think that s a mistake. "I do too," echoed Kirkpatrick. "I would like to see all the crossings closed. We have some needs in this city." According to Comer, some of the other highlights of the transportation plan included extending 1450 North from 300 East to the Road; Frontage designating Airport Drive as a collector from 600 East to 1200 East; creating a new access across and the Union Pacific railroad tracks; and completing a through road from Redwood Road to the 1200 West freeway interchange. in preparation for open house timed rira about until noon. A purse was lifted from another residence, this time accompanied by a tackle box from another vehicle at the same location. The purse, sans $50 in cash, was recovered; no such luck for the tackle box. Over $700 in various items were taken from the garage of a Lehi residence while the homeowners were on vacation. The garage door was down, but a side door was inadvertently left unlocked. There are no suspects in the case. The canopy at a local convenience store sustained about $5,000 in damages when a garbage collection vehicle passed through with its boom up. A videocassette player and saw, value unknown, were taken from the garage of a Lehi residence while the owners were at work. Unknown suspects were able to gain entry to the door despite a padlock. The case is still under investigation. In another faulty equipment stop, the investigating officer observed a pack of cigarettes on the dashboard of a vehicle and asked the driver his age. Later, a license and warrant check revealed that the suspect had been denied a license and had no insurance on the vehicle. When he agreed to a search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a bag of marijuana and rolling papers. The driver was cited for possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, driving on a denied license and no insurance on the vehicle. Purses were a hot item this week as one Lehi resident reported the theft of her purse from her locked vehicle.
