Show Citizen - Wednesday, August 7, 1996 Page 9 Writer will perform for home town ByKATHERINE SCHROEPPEL With his first CD recently released, Milan Rogers is looking forward to playing his music to his home town crowd this Saturday at noon under the tent at Alpine Days. Milan has been writing songs since the summer of 94. It began as a creative release for him, but turned into something more when to his surprise he found his family and friends were responsive and liked his music. He hesitates to classify his music, however, "There is a lot of variety in the sound. ..It's a very acoustically oriented sound, written on my guitar. We've coined the term 'acoustic alternative. He has been described as a James Taylor." His CD Wasted Moon is a compilation of 14 uplifting, sometimes bluesy original songs; each one has a special meaning to Milan. "They all evoke different emotions in me because those are the feelings I was feeling. All of it is meaningful in some way or another, loneliness, love, happiness, hope. "There's a lot of emotions "post-mode- rn throughout the album." Milan has also seen his music appeal to a wide range of people. He has developed a following in the Provo area among the college crowd, but also has been performing in front of younger audiences the LDS Church's through Especially for Youth series. "It's been kind of a scary thing for me just because I've had to play it for a very scrutinizing age group...teenagers," said Milan, "but they've been very responsive." He added that people "even up into the 30's" enjoy his music. Milan is a senior at BYU and is planning to graduate next summer in recreational therapy. He is also a newlywed having married Emily Howard just last March. He doesn't know where his music will take him, but he says it's very important to him, something that he "can't just put aside." His CD. will be available at Alpine Days. More information is available from "Wasted Moon Productions," P.O. Box 1437, American Fork, Utah, 84003. Though the Thunder were the home team, they were treated like visitors. Most of the 1,670 fans at the game were pulling for the Silver Bullets. A large contingent of American Fork fans were on hand, though, to provide the Thunder morale support during g the thriller. The game opened with second baseman Jeff Manning grounding out Michele McAnany. Beaned by a pitch from hurler Tod Johnsen, Camille Spitaleri quickly swiped second. But when she tried advancing to third on a rum Braazt bunt, she got trapped in a hot box, and third baseman Russell Cloward tagged her. After being called for balking, Johnsen struck out Laura ut 7-- nine-innin- Espinoza-Watso- ut 2-- n. In the bottom of the first, Reese Brunson whacked a one-osingle for the game's first hit, but he got thrown out in a fielder's choice play at second. The play contributed to the opening inning ending in a scoreless deadlock. With two outs and two runners on base, Angie Marzetta hit a one-ru- n single in the second. A McAnany walk loaded the bases right afterwards, but Johnsen struck out Spitaleri, before Colorado could get a rally going. Opening the second's bottom half with a center-fiel- d single, Jose Valdez soon scored a tying run on Dave Strunk's two-odouble. Cloward singled Strunk to give American Fork a 1 lead. Johnsen walked two straight batters in the third. After the pitcher struck out Tammy Holmes, a Cloward error permitted Pam Schaffrath to get on first, loading the bases. Braazt tried scoring on a captured fly ball, but center fielder Mike Herbert telegraphed a throw to catcher Brian Argyle, tagging her for the third out. Silver Bullets i The kept . 7-- 6 American Fork stuck on in its 1 lead as the fourth inning arrived. In giving up two walks that inning, Johnsen found himself replaced at the mound by the newest Thunder member, Ryan Adams, who had pitched for the American Fork Cavemen last spring. The reliever quickly found out that throwing against professional players was much different than throwing against high school teams. Colorado quickly pulled ahead 2 on a McAnany single and a Spitaleri sacrifice groundout. Colorado's second lead vanished in the bottom of the inning. On one out, Cloward doubled in Brad Rammel and Strunk to put American Fork back ahead Victor Valdez singled in Cloward, then came home on a Herbert single to give American Fork a 2-- 3-- 4-- 6-- 3 lead. Tripling the next inning, Holmes came home as Schaffrath grounded out to shortstop Victor Valdez. Right now, though, the main management thrust at Utah Lake is preserving June suckers. Native only to the Provo River and Utah Lake, these fish take precedence over all other management efforts." Studies are underway to learn more about the June sucker and other sport species in Utah Lake and to understand habitat requirements for these fish. The goal of these studies is to eventually add improvements, which will benefit all fish found in this water. 9) CUXC& Classes 3 and Up Cost$10to$15Month of insurance... After walking Missy Cress in the eighth, Adams grounded out Marzetta. That play didn't save him from being relieved by Eric Smith. The pitching change didn't stop McAnany from doubling in Cress for the tying run. McAnany stole third, then tried making a run for home, but catcher Jeff Manning tagged her at the plate. As soon as Smith had singled a ground ball into left, Tyler Manning's sacrifice bunt advanced him to third. Jeff Manning singled the reliever in, then got out in a fielder's choice play at second. After the eighth ended with Travis Green flying out to first, Smith found himself under much pressure in the ninth. As soon as the reliever had struck out Braatz and Espinoza-WatsoHolmes hit a single off him, then stole second. Smith struck out Schaffrath to win the game.
