At the Lehi Roundup celebration in June, the Sons of Utah Pioneers and their partners in pioneer costumes rode in a covered wagon. They have done this for several years. The national convention for the Sons of Utah Pioneers was held in Cedar City last August. It was a very informative, interesting and fun convention. Those from Lehi attending were National vice president Veron Curtis and wife; Rose Ashton, president and Mrs. Suel Bush man and John Bushman. Next year the national convention will be held in Squaw Valley, California and it is hoped there will be a larger group of local members there for another wonderful convention sponsored by Sacramento Chapter. Two big projects have been accomplished this past year. George Ricks was the chairman with Suel Bushman helping for the money collected for the Pioneer Monument at Brigham Young Cemetery in Salt Lake City. Thanks go to George Ricks and his committee for this accomplishment. President-elec- t George Ricks and his wife have been called on a mission to Argentina. We wish them the very best of everything and they will represent Lehi well. Another committee was selected with Virgil Peterson as chairman and the following as members: Veron Curtis, Randal Schow, and John Bushman. This committee was responsible for the beautiful marker costing about $1000, being placed on the grounds of the first church built in Lehi in 1855. The Church is located at First South and Second West in Lehi. The Liahonian Club was sponsored by the Auc-tu- s Club. On Feb. 10, 1943 we met with the Auctus Club of- ficers at the home of S. I. Goodwin, where our club was organized. At our first club meeting, we chose our name, Liahonian. The word Liahonian comes from the Scriptures. It means an instrument placed in the hands of Lehi who led the people into the wilderness. Either before the journey into the wilderness or at the very beginning, Lehi arose one morning to find a "round curious workmanship" by the door of his tent. It was of fine brass and "within the ball were two spindles; and the one pointed the way whither we ball of should Nephi Our Bone, go into the wilderness." She labored far into the night trying to make her tree as beautiful as she could. While she was asleep, spiders came and crawled from branch to branch trailing their lacy webs behind them. To reward the woman for her devotion, The Christ Child blessed the tree and all the spider webs were turned Into gleaming silver. President Virgil Peterson conducted the meeting and the opening prayer was offered by Randal Schow. The HiLo Chorus sang two songs, "Come, Come Ye Saints" and "They Call It American, But We Call It Home." President Peterson spoke as did Stake President Dean Worlton. The dedicatory prayer was offered by President Herman C. Goates. The closing prayer was by Suel Bushman. Through the generosity of the Lehi Coordinating Council, Lehi City, Lehi Civic Improvement Association, the State Bank of Lehi, the Lehi chapters of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, and all others who contributed, we sincerely thank them. A special thanks goes to President Virgil Peterson and his committee for a job well done. The December meeting was held at the home of Rose Ashton Thursday, December 13. National President of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, Thomas A. Lambert and his wife Mary, of Salt Lake City, were present. It surely was an honor to have them, it being the first time a national president has attended a meeting in Lehi. New officers were elected for next year.
