Show Lehi City Motes Year Lehi City 1973. This could be called a year of New for the City and it's citizens. There were many new items purchased for the City to help make the City operation better. New money from Federal Revenue Sharing Funds, New homes and New citizens. The new year started with the receipt of Federal Revenue Sharing monies. With these funds, the City Council purchased several new pieces of equipment and finished paying for other equipment, such as the garbage packer, a loader and backhoe to replace equipment that is 11 to 13 years old and in need of replacement. Through the use of these funds in compliance with the Federal regulations, the City Council was able to reduce the amount of tax anticipation borrowing from over $25,000 in 1972 to $1500 in 1973. Federal monies along with other City funds are kept in savings certificates as much as possible to gain interest, thus creating more funds for the City Council to use in helping make Lehi City a better "home town." The City Council approved remodeling of portions of the City Hall under the direction of Councilwoman Brown. A Court Room was made in order to add dignity to the City Justice of the Peace Court and to provide pleasant and usable surroundings for those citizens using the Court. The City Offices have been remodeled to enhance the looks and to provide for easier maintenance. The office was last remodeled in 1958 when the old jail was moved City out. Other than that, there has been very little done to the office since the 1930's when they were built. A new computor has been ordered to replace a much outdated billing machine and system. This new computor requires a more dust free atmosphere with controlled temperature and humidity. The new office surroundings will greatly assist in this. The machine will speed up billing operations and create new records and provide more useful information for City use. f Progress vice after more than 20 years service to the community. Also, among new items for the City was the acquisition of more property at the City Cemetery in order that there will be space for future needs. Most of the new lots created when roads were closed in 1972 have already been sold. A new float was built this year by City crews. The fully motorized float was decorated beautifully this year and appeared in many cities parades to advertise the City of Lehi. The Miss Lehi and her attendants each year represent the City and it's citizens beautifully, bringing credit to their home town. 1973 was a new year in the beautification program. The engineers are working on plans which call for the treatment plant probably in 1975 as new federal funds are made available. In order to keep the present plant operating at peak efficiency, the operator, Scott Robinson was sent to a Utah State sponsored school and upon his successful completion of the more than 400 hours of schooling, was awarded an operators certificate. With his new knowledge and information, he will be able to keep the plant working at it's best to do the job it was designed for at a minimum of cost to the City. The Lehi City power department started with a new program this year by putting underground power service to many new homes. To assist in this, a new trencher was purchased. This will reduce the possibility of power outages and reduce the maintenance costs. A new overall survey of the power system has been started which will include planned expansion and revamping of the system to keep it ahead of future growth and to reduce line loss and loss of revenue. The Auxiliary Police acquired a new Dodge Medicrusier Ambulance which allows them to maintain this very valuable service to the residents of Lehi.
